A New Meaning...
« on: July 23, 2008, 11:05:12 PM »

I used to love this before when it was written in regards to our tough times here on earth. But now that I know about the Lake of Fire this has a whole new meaning for me...

"In the Old Testament book of Malachi 3:3 we read: 'He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.'

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining Silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says:  'He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.'   She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.

The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, 'How do you know when the silver is fully refined?'

He smiled at her and answered, 'Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it.'  "

Heb 10:32  But you must continue to remember those earlier days, how after you were enlightened you endured a hard and painful struggle.

Wow Linny, that was a great story. Is it true?

That is a comforting thought to think of God right there watching us while being purified into His image.

In fact He is a consuming fire.  "For our God is a consuming fire." Hebrews 12:28

Glad you all enjoyed it.

Stevernator, it is an email that used to go around a lot so I don't know if it is true or just a story. I thought of it recently wishing to find it and was checking emails for my mom and someone had sent it to her! I was so glad to have it again now that it has a deeper meaning to me.

Joyce, I don't remember posting it before as I don't think I had it to post.
Thanks for sharing the one on gold. I just love finding these nuggets in God's Word vs. the world we live in. I am amazed at the trouble He went to to help us understand, as best we can, His true nature. How much I have to learn....

Hi Musicman,
It isn't mine. It is one of those "Christian" stories that goes around and around via email so I don't know if anyone knows the origin at this point. I cut off the ending regarding tough times here on earth so it isn't written from a BT perspective when it goes around.
