Note: Dates for inventions are often controversial. Inventions are often invented by several inventors around the same time, or may be invented in an impractical form many years before another inventor improves the invention into a practical form. Where there is ambiguity, the date of the first known working version of the invention is used here.

This is a partial list, for a full list go to this link.

I think that invention became necessary with the origin of fast food joints.  See, in the early 1800s, a man by the name of Calvin Greaseburger saw an opportunity to be a pioneer for the quick satisfaction of those with no motivation to be healthy.  He went into business with Cheesefry Chad and Colonial Sunders who found that chicken saturated with lard, brings out the tasty, yet unnatural flavor that the world's youth crave.  Early studies showed that when human throats were lined with grease, this lubricated the process of swallowing so that food wouldn't get stuck in your lungs, or something.  Unfortunately, about a 100 years later, some twerp scientist called the studies a hoax.

So comes the invention of the toilet.  Human waste used to not have stench.  In fact, it used to smell like flowers.  I heard that bacteria originated (evolved) right around some fat 15 year old who refused to eat the school lunches.  Instead, he blew his allowance at some place. . .oh I don't know. . .McPukles?  So came the stench, so came the need for toilets.

I hear Mr. Greasburger and company didn't last too long.  Greasburger and Sunders went quickly and quietly.  However, legend has it that Cheesefry mistakenly and often used poisen Ivy for sanitation.  So, he lived and died rather painfully.  The invention of toilet paper came 2 days after his demise.

Folks, everybody has been lying to you.  Above is real history.
