I just had to share this with you!
« on: October 11, 2008, 12:30:11 AM »

I thought about saving this until the season is upon us, but I just had to share this with you.
My "unsaved" cousin sent it to me.
Bless his heart, he was raised in Babylon and left as a teen when his Sunday school teacher told the class that white people were the chosen ones the Bible was teaching about.
He has been searching ever since and he has ties to all religions.
Anyway, he sent this out to people saying he was also,"On the side of the rebel Jesus."
Feel free to comment.

He may have been told a lie by the sunday school teacher but he still looking. That is good.

Unfortunately this sentimenatl song still lacks the Truth. It is another attempt to capitalize on Jesus Christ. BY portraying Jesus as a rebel ...they portray him out of step, when it is... they and other religious views that are rebellious...

The christmas stuff is pretty lame too

Hi Linny.  I can't watch videos on my connection, but I kinda relate to your cousin in that I was sort of driven from the church long before I found the truth.  God may yet cause him to stumble the good stumble.

I can't watch the video either. All this dealing with the massive amount of information and supposed experts on God, religion etc. can give anyone a headache and rebel attitude.  ;)

God bless him!

Very boring song and video! Never cared for Jackson Browne much either. There are way better Christian songs and videos out there.

For example if you want to now the power of Jesus to help and protect us watch and listen to this video. The video part stinks, however the song is fantastic!

Doug,
There's a better video of JMM live that you can link to from the link you gave.  I agree, the video montage on your original link was kinda elementaryish.  I'm still in tears though after looking at both of them.  Powerful good stuff.

Your cousin is seeking and searching--isn't that how we all found this haven??  I enjoyed the musical expression and artistic talent.  I think that Jesus can meet us on lots of levels that we don't or can't know, understand, relate to and much less judge.  Who knows what will come next for your cousin, and the folks who are led to his video???  Only God knows, as it's all about Him.

By the way Doug, I don't mean to belittle your opinion, I hope you understand what I'm trying to convey.

Love in Christ,
Vangie

Vangie I agree with you. I didn't use the second link because the sound quality is not as good as the other one. JMM is a very good story teller as are many other artists out there. I think the song is very powerful. Thanks for the reply.

I think I interpret the song,
as pointing out the commercialism of Christmas.
In which we give to our loved ones, but what do we do for the stranger?  (Its has a form of Godliness)
And the robbing of the people by the church.
And that if Jesus walked amoung us today, the church world would consider Jesus a REBEL.
And that to mainstream Christianity, anyone who rejects the church doctrines (Jackson Brown) would be considered a heathan & a Pagan.

Sounds familiar, like many of the emails ray gets from babylon.

The words for those who have dial up!

All the streets are filled with laughter and light
And the music of the season
And the merchants' windows are all bright
With the faces of the children
And the families hurrying to their homes
While the sky darkens and freezes
Will be gathering around the hearths and tables
Giving thanks for God's graces
And the birth of the rebel Jesus

Well they call him by 'the Prince of Peace'
And they call him by 'the Savior'
And they pray to him upon the seas
And in every bold endeavor
And they fill his churches with their pride and gold
As their faith in him increases
But they've turned the nature that I worship in
From a temple to a robber's den
In the words of the rebel Jesus

Well we guard our world with locks and guns
And we guard our fine possessions
And once a year when Christmas comes
We give to our relations
And perhaps we give a little to the poor
If the generosity should seize us
But if any one of us should interfere
In the business of why there are poor
They get the same as the rebel Jesus

Now pardon me if I have seemed
To take the tone of judgement
For I've no wish to come between
This day and your enjoyment
In a life of hardship and of earthly toil
There's a need for anything that frees us
So I bid you pleasure
And I bid you cheer
From a heathen and a pagan
On the side of the rebel Jesus

I agree with your assessment Brenda.
I do think Jesus was a rebel in His time. At least as far as the church was concerned.

Doug,
About "There are way better Christian songs and videos out there."
This isn't a Christian song and video. I found it an interesting take on the church by someone who seems to consider themselves an outsider as far as Christianity is concerned.

Thanks for the encouraging words Dave. He is a great guy and seems to always be in the search mode. I think he is like so many others who left the church because he couldn't find any truth there.

Thanks Vangie, I agree with you. God can use anything to get someone's attention.

Hey thanks OBrenda! Nice of you to think of us dial up people. :)
