Mad World..(Not the movie)
« on: November 15, 2008, 11:33:21 PM »

Just the other day I discovered this song- "Mad World", sung by a Gary Jules. Although many might find it depressing, I see it as a beautiful song with an important message:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3N1MlvVc4

In case some of you may be unable to use Youtube, the lyrics go:

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world ... world
Enlarge your world
Mad world

If I could make a fitting interpretation of the song I think it could relate to all of us in a sense that, despite all the lies we were once fed, the people of bibletruths have, and continue to serve us well.

The first paragraph goes:

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

This part kinda reminds of how absent minded today's older and modern day Christians are and the unscriptural messages they teach. Waking up "bright and early"  to teach their "daily race" message of Get Saved. and Turn Or Burn  yet we hide our heads..trying desperately to hold back our sorrow knowing how off base they are.

The second paragraph goes:

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

Sounds like how I would feel if returning to my protestant church life and seeing the congregation or ".Children waiting for the day they feel good". Eventually people may recognize my face, but as the song goes.."no one knew me no one knew me", is I think a direct reference to the unpopular belief we hold that all will be saved.

Forgive me if it seems like I'm over -bashing the Christian church, but I just can't get over the amount of ignorance and logical fallacies I still see day after day..

To the bibletruths.com staff and creators..Mr Smith, Mr. Vogel and all else who continue to open our eyes and cleanse our minds of the unscriptural teachings we were once taught,  Thank you!

Andrew,
Wow those are deep thoughts! You are right! It's amazing how we live our lives day by day and believe the  lies- only we think it is truth!  My little grandsons go to a Baptist school and the pastor of the church and school is a really fine person. He is so concerned about saving people from burning in Hell I'm afraid he's going to have a stroke when he preaches on it! He is so passionate for people's souls. If I were to tell him what I know about hell he would probably throw my grand sons out of school! ;) Do people want it to be so or are they just afraid? I don't know!
Thanks for sharing that.

That song was in Donnie Darko which was a strange movie. Tears for Fears wrote the original version of that song. I just thought about when you are a child you have feelings and experiences that don't really happen as we get older and cynical.

As for childhood nostalgia here is a much happier song :)
