and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

Ray says that Christ was not dead for 3 days since that would contradict, yet it appears here that Paul is stating that Christ was burried...and then 3 days later He rose AFTER He was burried.

Can we look into this further?

hi all---------

1Co 15:3 For I give over to you among the first what also I accepted, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,
1Co 15:4 and that He was entombed, and that He has been roused the third day according to the scriptures,

Mat 12:40  For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

If I understand this correctly, the three days start at the point of the betrayal in the garden by judas. The heart of the earth(man is made of the dust of the earth) refers not to the tomb(though some of the time was spent there)but rather to the whole period that Christ subjected Himself to the evils of man including the trial, beatings, mocking and of course the crucifiction. He ultimately paid all the wage of sin by His death. The word earth here is used just like the word "world" was in Christ's teaching to signify mans sinful nature.I think it only fitting that the first Adam became the subject of sin in the garden and Christ the  Second Adam became subject to sin(mans)  in a garden too.So yes Christ died and was entombed but His experience in the "heart of the earth began before that.

Bingo!

Jer 22:29
O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.

Joh 1:9
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10  He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

Luk 24:18  And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him,
Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?

Luk 24:19  And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

Luk 24:20  And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

Luk 24:21  But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.[/list:u]

They included the "how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death" in the these things... that lead up to "to day is the third day".
