Salvation
« on: January 29, 2009, 11:53:09 AM »

First off, thank you for all the kind welcomes.  I joined a couple weeks ago...I'm not able to do much posting but when I get a minute I enjoy reading what's going on in the forum.

For the last month I've been doing study on salvation.  I am so excited about the things I've been learning here and in my own study but I feel I need to ask a couple questions to be able to move on.  Are we ALL "heirs" of salvation or only the few considered the heirs?  If the few are saved from judgement what are ALL saved from?  ALL are saved in that they don't burn for all eternity, but that is unscriptural doctrine so you can't be saved form something that doesn't exist, right?

Feel free to point out an article on the site if that's all I need!

Thank you!!

Hi Kicking,
Rodger had quoted this in another post and I thought it may answer your question as well.

 Substitution
« on: November 26, 2006, 07:38:09 PM »

    Hi Ray,
I understand that if Christ had not come to save and die for us, we would still suffer only the first death in the flesh that we suffer for our sins ,(Rom. 5:12) even though he died for us. We just wouldn't resurrect as we find in 1 Cor. 15:18 "Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost." So since Christ death does not save us from any death, his death was not substitutionary for us. Having said this, could you unravel one scripture that appears to contradict this? Rom. 5:7 "Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die." This sounds like a substitution. Can you clarify?

    Dear Mel:
The Scriptures tell us that Jesus died FOR US; FOR ALL; FOR OUR SINS.  Nowhere does it state or suggest that He died as a "substitute," in our "place and stead," or any such terminology.  Rom. 5:7 does not suggest either that one is dying as a "substitude" for another, but rather "for their sake," or "for them."  Notice that Jesus died "FOR OUR SINS." I do not think that anyone would suggest that Jesus died "in place of our sins?"  He died FOR US.  And therefore we need to be careful even in stating that "Christ's death does not save us from ANY death..."  Technically, it is true that we are not saved BY His death, but rather BY His life, nonetheless, unless there had been a death preceeding the life, we would be finished.  His death and resurrection WILL ASSUREDLY SAVE US FROM DEATH, and it will save all of humanity from death, as death itself is to be totally absolished .
    God be with you,
    Ray

Hello Kicking,

For an in depth study on 'salvation', I would suggest the complete Lake of Fire series (http://bible-truths.com/). I know that may not be the simplest answer, and the papers are very thorough, but this would help give you a 'complete' understanding on salvation.

Hope this helps,

Marques

Maybe this will be a small nudge in the right direction.

"If the few are saved from judgement what are ALL saved from?"

Nobody is saved from Judgement, in the sense that nobody is spared judgement.  If anything, we are saved BY judgement.  Jesus came to save sinners.  What we need 'saving' from is our sins.  These sins spring from our God-created carnal nature.  We'll be saved when all that is gone and we are finally in the likeness of Christ.

Some few are undergoing judgement now, but all will undergo it eventually.

I know this may raise more questions than it answers, but do as Marques suggested and dig into the materials.  The churches cloud the meaning of 'salvation' and 'judgement' and it takes a new eye to begin to see the Big Picture.  This is NO small subject, as it is ultimately the meaning of life and creation!  Don't be dismayed if you don't see it all at once.
