Kingdom of God Timeline?
lferretj:
Thank you for your replies and the articles that were posted, they did help.
This is the verse I was confused on--
Matthew 16:27For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. 28I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
Correct me if I'm wrong but verse 27 is talking about the future when indeed the world is judged--it can be compared to what Ray posted about Matthew 25:31
Mat 25:31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy[3] angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
v. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
v. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
v. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, "Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
v. 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
This is also the resurrection of the dead, when judgment comes on the world. It is then that the rest of the world will go through the process of being made into His image, in the Lake of fire.
But then Verse 28 is talking about the church age, now, when it talks about being in the kingdom. Luke 17:20-22
20Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21 nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you." After Jesus was resurrected and the disciples received the Holy Spirit they became part of the Kingdom of God when they were still alive physically.
So the two verses are two different events. That would solve my dilemma. Is this how other people see it?

Email reply from Ray regarding Matt 16:28 (http://forums.bible-truths.com/index.php/topic,5855.0.html):
As for "There be some STANDING H-E-R-E which shall not taste of death, TILL [till mean 'until,' and then when the 'till' has occurred, THEY WILL TASTE OF DEATH] they see the Son of man coming in His kingdom" (Matt. 16:28). And just when DID they see this? Answer--next verse:
Mat 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
Mat 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Mat 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Where they really, actually, literally, in the flesh "talking with Jesus?" No. Read verse 9:
Mat 17:9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
It was all a "VISION." It happened in their minds, not unlike a dream--it was only a VISION, but in that vision, they really did see Jesus as He will appear "IN HIS KINGDOM).
Hope this helps your understanding. The Scriptures do not contradict their own truths.
God be with you,
Ray
Lferretj,
Verse 28 is not talking about a 'church age' but some "standing here" as he was talking to his disciples. Though Paul prophecies that not all will be dead when Christ returns to judge the world in righteousness ["...We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed" (1 Cor 15:51)]
You are making an assumption in regards to Luke 17:20-22 when you state 'they became a part of the Kingdom of God when they were still alive physically'. No scripture interprets itself [2 Pet 1:20] no matter how simple we think it sounds as we need 2-3 scriptural witnesses [Matt 18:6, 2 Cor 13:1] to make a spiritual match [1 Cor 2:13, Acts 15:15].
Christ stated the kingdom of God 'is WITHIN you'. Like a seed or an earnest down payment.
Eph 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
2 Cor 5:5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
Matt 13:31 ...The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed
Mark 4:26 ...So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground
Hope this helps,
Marques
lferretj:
Thank you for all the replies, that last tidbit from Marque helped me understand better--the inheritance point was what was throwing me off. Their is so much to learn and I'll have to be more careful in making assumptions. I feel like I need to have the whole scriptures memorized in order to be able to find the witnesses, but that's why we study. I was trying to see something that wasn't there and thus became confused. This is all pretty new to me so I'm glad to have people to ask questions and set me back on track. Again thank you.
