     Two moons on 27 August*
     *27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for...*
     Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky
starting August. It will look as large as the full moon
to the naked eye. This will culminate on Aug. 27 when
Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure
to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like
the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this
close is in 2287.

I don't even need to read snopes to know that that is absurd.  The moon is less than 1/70 th of that distance from Earth and is probably about 1/3 the size of Mars.  The moon should still look more than 20x the size of Mars to us.  So folks, if you see something the size of our full moon and it happens to be red, make peace with God.  It aint Mars!!  It's over!!!

Rick, after just reading your post, I was thinking "yeah, right, just like the awesome meteor shower we were supposed to see last nite! :D  THEN I saw the snopes thing.  Oh well.

But 2 moons in a month means a blue moon!! 

And Aug. 28  will be a lunar eclipse.
