Title: Concordant Literal Version
Post by: Andy_MI on October 29, 2006, 12:50:37 PM
Hi everyone,

I've made the CLV complete with Old and New testaments available for download.

Just unzip it and copy it into your "c:\Program Files\e-Sword" folder.

This is the complete bible and not just the new testament.

Here's the link:

http://www.esnips.com/doc/fda2551f-b10e-464e-9d77-226836b3e9a8/clv.zip

Peace,

Andy

Perfect timing Andy. I was just trying to figure out the "Interlinear Scriptural Analyzer" Gena made reference to in a post the other day, and was having problems getting the CLV.
Thanks for posting this!!

I posted again to bring this back to the first page in order to make it easier to find.

Let me know if anyone has problems downloading the file.

Also here's the link for e-Sword incase anybody doesn't know about this free bible study tool for the PC.
e-Sword has to be installed for the CLV to work.

Awesome. I've been wanting to see the Old Testament of the CLV; only the New Testament's available online. I'm surprised this is available because the CLV website (http://www.concordant.org/version/index.html) says that the Old Testament isn't complete, yet; and that what's currently available is only availale in booklet form.

Andy,
Thanks so very much for the OT from Concordant. I have a hard copy and on-line copy of NT and really look forward to getting into the OT. It is sometime difficult to read but I trust it more than any of the other versions.

Hi Andy,
I was so excited to see this! I downloaded it into my e-sword file and when I went to open it, it told me that it was no good.
 :(
I went into my e-sword and sure enough, it was not there.
Perhaps you know what I need to do?

You extracted the ZIP and then moved clv.bbl into the e-Sword folder?

Maybe you're using a version of e-Sword that's too old.

It is sometime difficult to read but I trust it more than any of the other versions.

It's like the King James. Out of curiosity, would you say it's more difficult than the King James?

Thanks heaps for that!

I lost my other e-sword I'd downloaded and I had to download it all again, but for some reason the CLV isn't on the e-sword site anymore and I didn't think I'd be able to get it anymore.

Thanks heaps!

Hi
If anyone has a PDA you can get bible downloads for free from www.olivetree.com. I currently have three versions of the bible MKJV Youngs and Rotherams on my device. I have found it extremely helpful in studying the scriptures as I can very easily switch between versions in order to compare and contrast. It is also very easy to do word searches as well as copy and paste onto word documents. It has made studying the scriptures so much more easier for me .

Linny I am at work so I cannot help at the moment.   I have a page bookmarked at home where I downloaded the CLV for e-sword and it worked fine.  I will post it this evening.

Paul,
I would not say the CLV is more difficult to read than the KJV but I am so much more familiar with the KJV. I do like to compare verses and have marked through everlasting and hell in my KJV and replaced with aions and hades.

I like that the KJV uses hell, because then hell gets destroyed in the lake of fire (Rev. 20:14)!  :)

That brings a giggle! :)

My how times have changed. Tell a person to “go to hell” today, and it is an insult of the highest level. Tell a person back in the dark ages of England to “go to hell” and he would probably go to a cool cellar and bring back some potatoes for dinner. For that is where they stored potatoes—in hell.http://bible-truths.com/lake16-A.html

So the potato cellar is consigned to the LOF!! Good one!  :D ;D

Peace to you

Arcturus :)

Is there some online documentation about storage of potatoes in hell  long ago.   I am not doubting Ray,  but I would like some additional documentation of this if I happen to bring it up to someone to make a point and they ask.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia;

The modern English word Hell is derived from Old English hel, helle (about 725 AD) and ultimately from Proto-Germanic halja, meaning "one who covers up or hides something."

From The Webster Encylopedia of the English Language 1969 Edition;

hell, hel, n. A.Sax. hel, from helan, to cover, conceal, literally a place of concealment = D and Icel. hel, G. holle, hell; same root as L. celo, to conceal . Akin helmet

According to Arcade Dictionary of Word Origins by John Ayto, the etymology of the word "hell" is as follows:

hell (OE) Etymologically, "hell" is a 'hidden place.' It goes back ultimately to Indo-European 'kel' (cover, hide), which has contributed an extraordinary number of words to English, including 'apocalypse,'' cell,' 'cellar,' 'conceal,' 'helmet,' 'hull,' 'pod,' 'occult,' and possibly 'colour' and 'holster.' Its Germanic descendant was 'khel-,' 'khal-,' whose derivatives included 'khallo' and 'khaljo.' The first became modern English 'hall,' the second modern English 'hell-'-so both hall and hell were originally 'concealed or covered places,' although very different ways: the 'hall' with a roof, 'hell' with at least six feet of earth. Related Germanic forms include German 'Holle' (O with an umlaut), Dutch 'hel,' and Swedish 'helvete' (in which 'vete' means punishment').

Hi everybody

I've been trying to install esword forever (probably the most appropriate time to use the word) and either I'm not getting it right or I'm not getting the entire file. Each time I try to install I get an error message. Then I download again and wait, then try to install then error message.  Pls help.

Make sure your getting the top file in the listing,  the bottom one is an update and you can't install that by itself.   It is also possible that they are having server problems which sometimes can result in corrupt files.

I don't like how this Bible says things like "be seeing" instead of "see" and "be displaying" instead of just "display".

Paul, it's is a literal translation, that's why. It tries to translate literally how it is in the Hebrew/Greek. It doesn't try to make it sound beautiful in English.

Like Ray said in one of his audios (think it was "How we got the Bible?"): He would read the King James, but consult the literal translation when he needs a precise translation. There are other literal translations as well, like Young's.

God be with you,
Eirik

I agree w/ Paul.  That aorist tense is confusing bcz it is used ALL the time so it can difuse the meaning.

Hello everybody

I really need help now. Everytime I try to install the latest downloaded file (which is probably every second day or something) I get an error message. Is esword now selling the software? Cos I saw a link to a donation where you'll then get a free CD delivered to you...

I used some other software and it was just not up to standard. I need esword in my life   :'(

Yes, Gena, it can be confusing, but isn't that how we got "Creating is the Elohim humanity", instead of "And God created"?

And creating is the Elohim humanity in His image. In the image of the Elohim He creates it. Male and female He creates them. (Gen 1:27 CLV)

To tell the truth, I don't know when which tense is correct. I guess you have to look at how it's used in the Hebrew text.

God be with you,
Eirik

Kweli,

I haven't been able to download e-sword either.  I had it and loved it.  But then changed servers, tried to reload it and just can't get it to work.  It downloads, and the screen shows the bible chapters and verses, but when I click on a vs nothing comes up.  and at the bottom it says "dictionary".  I have tried everything with the formatting but nothing brings the bible verses up.

I really miss e-sword.   :'(
Anybody have any idea what's going on with esword or what I'm doing wrong?   ???   Thanks for any help.

Cindy

Hello,

I had upgrade E-sword for version 9. Then I copied CLV in the zip file and pasted in program files (x86), then I clicked E-sword start and notice the CLV was not in. I tried several times and different way, but nothing work. I had CLV in E-sword version 6, 7, and 8 and was fine. But not new version 9. I know how do it my self but nothing work for new version. Has anyone have CLV in new version 9 successful? If so, how? I hope not E-sword reject CLV.
