Title: Priest, bishop & pope in heaven
Post by: SandyFla on July 11, 2006, 05:13:29 PM
Here’s one my grandfather (who was Catholic) used to tell:

A priest died and went to heaven. St. Peter met him at the gate and asked the priest, “How many sins have you committed in your lifetime?”
The priest replied, “About 100.”
St. Peter said, “Wow! That’s pretty good! You can have a Cadillac to ride around the streets of heaven.”
The priest thanked him and drove down the road.

Later a bishop died, and St. Peter met him at the gate.
“How many sins have you committed in your lifetime?” St. Peter asked him.
The bishop responded, “About 1,000.”
St. Peter said, “Hmmm, that’s not too bad. I’ll give you a Volkswagen to ride around the streets of heaven.”
The bishop thanked him and drove off.

Soon the bishop met the priest, who declared, “Hey, did you just see the pope go by on a pair of roller skates?”

Hi SandyFla,

I was wondering what the point was your Grandfather was making.

Was it that the Priest and Bishop were "lordlier" than the pope and were making fun of him.

Or were they opportunists and making fun of the pope, thinking honesty doesn't pay even in heaven.

Oh, I could go on forever :)

Thanks, YellowStone

Ha, both of your posts were funny! Though I can tell your grandfather did not like imports too much. Hehe. I'd rather have a Volkswagen than a Cadillac anyway. ;)

The point of the joke is this: In the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church, out of the three offices, the priests are on the low rung, the bishops are in the middle, and the pope is at the top.

But when it came time for them to enter heaven, it was reversed. The priest was the best of them, and the pope was the biggest sinner of them all, as shown when he is seen riding through the streets of heaven on rollerskates.
