hi all. manuela called yesterday to say she had been released from the hospital to continue her antibiotic regimen at home until she can see her doctor this week for a follow up. her physician is out of town until tuesday. manuela told me the swelling is about the same, and her doctor is anticipating surgery to remove the affected gland and do a biopsy.
please continue to keep her in your prayers.

Thanks for the update. I pray that she is comfortable, not feeling pain, and resting in Him. She has been through so much.

manuela and i spoke on the phone a few minutes ago. she said the gland involved is the parotid gland on the right side of her face/neck. this is a saliva gland. her physician wants to do surgery to remove the gland, but after doing research on this type of surgery on the internet this evening, she is very concerned about having the surgery. her current nerve disorder is what concerns her with regards to the surgery to remove the parotid gland. one of the main face muscles runs through this gland, and post-surgery can result in temporary face paralysis. manuela also read that 15-20% of patients experience permanent facial paralysis of some type. so, needless to say she is very concerned about having the surgery done.
she has an appointment tuesday morning with her e.n.t. specialist. i will let you know what is decided after i speak to her tuesday evening.
please continue to keep her in your prayers.

hi forum family, below is the update i posted on the facebook page "friends of l. ray smith" this evening, as they have also been praying for manuela.
claudia
manuela is going to stay on antibiotics for another week, then go in for surgery to remove the submandibular gland, due to the continual infection that has been coming from that gland. after this gland is removed, during the same surgery, a specialist from jackson, ms is going to remove the crystals that have formed in her parotid gland. manuela said she just wants to get healthy again. God willing, i will go to mobile to be with her during this procedure and when she comes home. she is so appreciative of the prayerful support.

thanks claudia for the update.
Please keep updating...thanks...

Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for all of your prayers. I really appreciate it. It helps me to get through this tough time (I could really use a break ::). I am thankful for Claudia to be such a good friend. She will be here in Mobile after my surgery and babysit me. and I know that Dennis won't be far behind her. I will keep you updated.
Thanks again. Love you all

hi forum family. i wanted to give another quick update on manuela. she is having surgery this coming thursday on her neck to remove the submandibular gland and to try and remove the crystals in her parotid gland. i will fly into mobile on wednesday and stay for a week, to help her in any way i can. she has been suffering with this maddening infection in her glands for several weeks. i know she is ready to get the surgery over with so she can begin to heal.
i will keep you all posted on her recovery.

I got a text from Claudia and she says Manuela is out of surgery. They removed her submandibular gland on the right side of her neck. The parotid gland was fine. The submandibular was infected and inflamed.
She will be taking Manuela home today.

Thank God she is doing well.

I pray that things go well and that she recovers fully.

In another thread, the need for physical fellowship over spiritual fellowship is being debated. By reaching out to Manuela across miles, you Claudia, have shown that we have the potential for both here on this forum. Thank you. :)
We hope that Manuela is doing well, post surgery.
With prayers for a quick recovery.

Hi forum family. Manuela is doing so much better since having the infected submandibular gland removed. Her recuperation is going very well. She sees her doctor on thursday for her post surgery follow up and to have the outer stiches removed. I fly back home tomorrow, and will miss her very much. I will also miss ceasar "the cutest dog in the world" as ray called him. That little dog is manuela's constant companion and a big help in her healing process. Praises to our Father God for bringing manuela through this difficult period.
Love in Christ,
claudia
