Title: Violence
Post by: Craig on October 01, 2006, 10:45:35 PM
Dear Ray,

I have spent the past 4 years working to read the entire Bible.  I just finished.  I thought it would bring me closer to God--I am disappointed and estranged.  I found it to be full of bloody, awful violence--not what one would expect.  I feel that I am on the edge of losing my relationship with God or abandoning it.  I do not know where to turn.  The punishments God pronounced on the peoples of the Old Testament, and the punishment put on Jesus, do not seem inconsistent with the idea of burning in hell.  I sin everyday in a million ways and feel there is no hope.  I would like to believe what you've said in your papers.  How do you understand all the gore in the old testament and the way Jesus suffered?  Is God a loving father dangling a candy carrot and threatening us with a really scary stick to train us?  If we are caught in a system where we (or some of us) can only fail, then wh y concern ourselves with it at all?

Angela

Dear Angela:
Your present attitude is the result of your own carnal mind and the environment in which you grew up.  The Scriptures, and the Fath are not for the carnal-minded. Unless and until God opens your mind first of all to who and what YOU ARE, you will understand nothing spiritual. Thereis nothing I can tell you that you can understand of a spiritual nature unless God is opening your mind as your are reading my words.

Had you been born under the same circumstances of those committing the crimes of which you read of in the Bible, it would have been YOU who would be carrying out these evils.  If you are desiring to change you life and have a faith to live by, then I would encourage you to continue reading the material on our site. I cannot explain the plan of God and the mysteries of the universe in an email.  Hope you understand.
God be with you,
Ray
