Title: Prejudiced people
Post by: musicman on November 17, 2009, 10:10:03 PM
So, I was in a foreign country once, when I sought to buy from one of their markets.  I did not understand their currency exchange, so I pulled out a five dollar bill to hand to them.

The guy appeared to know absolutely no English but was well equipted to insult my American heritage.  As soon as I showed him the five, he shook his head and said:

Green!!   Go!!

Americans are hated in many places of the world.  Should not be a surprise, but you are just learning it now.  No wonder is it?

Fester,

I can't speak about the personality traits and behaviors displayed in other countries, because I don't really know. However, their's so much arrogance, selfishness, laziness and pride by many people in this country promoting the concept " Were better than everyone else." I don't believe so. We have some Foreigners that work at DSM(my employment) and most are from the Netherlands and all of them are hard working and polite. Anyway, it's just my opinion, All is of God and Humans are mostly Carnal, except God's Elect.

                                      Kind Regards, Samson.

Eh.. i sort of disagree. I don't think we as americans promote this idea that we are better than everyone else, but rather people project this idea onto everything we do because we as a nation are very advanced, wealthy and powerful. I don't think we boast about it, it's just out their because thats something you can't hide now a days. Also i don't think theirs anything wrong with a little pride in your country. I absolutely love america and i don't every want to live anywhere else. Well unless we are turned into a completely socialist country like what seems to be going on right now with our current president and universal health care and yada yada yada. However, that still remains to happen, so for now i am extremely happy with our country and proud to be an american and not because i think we are better than everyone else but because i love this way of life that we enjoy. Also, i love the tremendous amount of diversity that exists in places like california where i am from and i love the ability of being able to move across the country and end up in an area completely different then the one i currently live in! Without ever having to leave this country or travel half way across the planet. Thats awesome!

God bless america! :P

Joshua 5:13-15  While Joshua was near Jericho, he suddenly saw a man standing in front of him, holding a sword. Joshua went up to him and asked, "Are you one of our soldiers, or an enemy?"

"Neither," the man answered. "I am here as the commander of the LORD's army."

Joshua threw himself on the ground in worship and said, "I am your servant, sir. What do you want me to do?"

And the commander of the LORD's army told him, "Take your sandals off; you are standing on holy ground." And Joshua did as he was told.

I'm trying to do that too.

A fish is not aware of the hook behind or hidden in the shiny lure until its too late.
Have faith in what you can't see, but beware of the things that appear to be good, but are evil. Things are not what they appear to be.
Yes, I live in America, but its not something to be proud of. Its a beautiful country in its beautiful landscapes. I live in a part of Gods world. I'm thankful for where He has placed me, but I am in no way proud of a country or nation. It just might be that other countries see what most Americans refuse to see, or just don't care. No! I am not American. I am a child of God, living on His earth. Sometimes you have to place yourself on the outside looking in to see whats going on.
Peace

Roy,
I am from Germany originally. I lived in Frankfurt, Germany, for 24 years altogether. When I immigrated to the US in 1976, it was one of the happiest days in my life. I became a US citizen 6 years ago and had to give up my German citizenship. In hindsight, I am not sure it was the smartest move. I have seen a lot of changes in this country, and they are not for the better. All I have to do is look at Wall-Street  :( . There is an air of arrogance and false pride in this country that makes me heartsick.
When I grew up in Germany, a few years after WW II, the German population was greatly humbled. I grew up in a family and amongst people that knew no prejudices then and never heard a bad word about people who were "different". I was confronted with "prejudices" after I moved to the States; it shocked me.
Sometimes I wish I could just pack up and move back... If it wasn't for the son I would leave behind, the decision would be so easy.

Firefly, I sincerely apologize for the prejudices you have suffered at the hands of other Americans. It makes my heart sick as well.
Roy, again, you have stated elequently EXACTLY how we feel.
We used to be flag flying, patriotic americans. But part of learning truth is seeing the world as it is. America is just as government/media propaganda controlled as any other nation if not more so. Having a dad who served in the Navy I have seen up close and personal the extent the government goes to to keep us saluting and never questioning our government. All man-run institutions are evil and we should not be like sheep nor drink the Kool-aid of following any evil entity of this world. Trust God and no other.
Our new motto, "If most people believe it, it probably isn't true..."

Good points, especially when you realize that the United States is (like all other countries) a Kingdom of This World.  Those who are discipled by Christ are not to be conformed to the image of this world.  Nor are we to love the world.  Ours is to be in the Kingdom to come, that's not of this world.  The Kingdom of God.

What does God say? We must live according to the Spirit of Truth, not mans lies and deceit. The world is no place for believers.

Rev.18: 4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues;

Isaiah 52:11 Depart, depart, go out from there, Touch nothing unclean; Go out of the midst of her, purify yourselves, You who carry the vessels of the LORD.

Jeremiah 51:6 Flee from the midst of Babylon, And each of you save his life! Do not be destroyed in her punishment, For this is the LORD'S time of vengeance; He is going to render recompense to her.

2 Corinthians 6:17 "Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE," says the Lord. "AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you.

Peace...Mark

It wasn't so much that I suffered a lot of prejudices in this country, but to see Americans being prejudice against their own country men because of their skin color or whatever else bothered me to no end.
What makes me heartsick is this notion that we (US) try to persuade everyone else in the world that we have all the answers by using a proverbial 2 x 4 to convince them. Whatever happened to living by example?

Whatever happened to living by example?

Exactly correct firefly.
That caution applies just as much in America's churches.
Who are we to force Democracy or Christianity on people of other Nations?

When we stand as a better example and people come to us for advice and a little help to improve their own situation, we can be good Samaritans and then gently assist them.  Colonizing the world and demanding that the world change to suit our preferred way of life is really just meddling and Jesus did not teach us to share the Gospel in that manner.

If our ways are so much better then perhaps we can clean up Chicago first.

We could argue ad infinitum, ad nauseum about which -ism is better or best, which society, way of life, opinion, etc. etc.  Points could be made for all points of view.  Some of them could even be true.

Likewise, we could also discuss forever whether wood, hay, or stubble makes a better building material.  We might even come to a concensus on which one is best.  Big deal.  None of it is permanant.  All of it will pass away.  Build yourself with them at your own peril.  Shelter yourself by them and see what happens when they burn.

Idols of the heart are in the heart.  We can worship them, exchange them for new ones, or crush them all where they reside.  We're in the world by the will of God.  It is not His will that we be removed from the world, but that the world be removed from His Elect.

"And Joshua did as he was told."

Boy, these statements really sum up what I didn't expect.  I didn't expect to hook so many into thinking I was serious.  Obviously, this post is not what it appeared to be.  Looking in from the outside, I am surprised that no one caught on to what I meant by Green!!  Go!!

What is the color of our currency?

Can I get a cymbal crash please?

I for one am happy to have been born in the USA. (Thank you Lord). The Lord has blessed this nation and brought us up to the position in the world and it will be the Lord who will humbles us.  Yes the US has its problems but what country doesn't. Still how many people from other countries risk their lives or leave behind family in order to come to the US. Say what you will, but I don't hear about to many people trying to get into N.Korea, China. But as I said in the beginning of this post, This nation has it's problems. OH and please even if one does not agree on our policies lets not forget to thank our men and women whom are abroad and their families.

Gringo? I got it now, lol. :D

From Wikipedia

Gringo is a Spanish word used in Mexico and other parts of Latin America, generally to denote people from the United States. The term can be applied to any person who is known, or assumed to be from the United States regardless of race, or it can denote a strong association or assimilation into American society and culture. The term in its functional use is mostly encountered by Americans traveling abroad to Spanish speaking countries.[citation needed] The American Heritage Dictionary classifies gringo as "offensive slang," "usually disparaging," and "often disparaging."

Good one musicman. ;) Here I thought this really happened to you.
