Title: Tithing?
Post by: Craig on June 02, 2007, 09:54:48 PM
Didn't the woman in the temple give 2 mites?

And Jesus sat over against the treasury(Strongs #G1049 gazophylakion), and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites(leptos (Strong's G3016)), which make a farthing. And he called [unto him] his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all [they] did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, [even] all her living. Matthew 12:41-44(See also Luke 21:1-4)

Dear Robbins: The widow's two mites has absolutely, totally, nothing to do with the law of tithing. There was an area called the "treasury" where people could donate to the Priests, but it was NOT A TITHE. Farmers did not bring their tithes to the treasury. Theologians are "straining out gnats and swallowing camels" with such nonsense. There is NO TITHING under the New Covenant, NONE. Period.  There is not one example of tithing under the New Covenant in the New Testament. The early church didn't tithe for CENTURIES until the Catholic Church came up with the unscriptural heresy of EVERYONE tithing on EVERYTHING, including wages or money. It is total heresy.
        God be with you,
