I personally believe that vanity is the cause of all sin.....it's the carnal mind at work.....one of the great deceptions of the Church is the "Seven deadly sins" which vanity is a part of. All the deadly sins revolve around vanity.

Falcon, you are absolutely right.  I love to read the book of Ecclesiastes.  It explains the vanity of mankind and that we can do nothing except to eat, drink and enjoy the work we do under the sun, for it is a gift from God and is our lot.

Vanity is a deep rooted love of self, instead of loving God and our fellow man over our own needs.  In this society of today, we are constantly bombarded or brainwashed if you will, to think of self.

I have a brother who is deaf, my wife is deaf, my stepson is deaf and I know many other deaf people.  I have seen firsthand the cruelty of others towards them just because they are different, but they are blind because we are all the same.  In my younger years, many a fight broke out against these kind of people who mistreated and poked fun at my brother just because he is deaf.

Vanity definitely is a characteristic that must be overcome by believers.  Again I love the book of Eccleiastes.  Very enlightening.

God bless,

Gary

I agree vanity is a cause for many, many sins.

Has Ray or Mike touch on this subject deeply i wonder.

I can relate to the vanity caused indifference you suffered.

Thanks you for your input as i find vanity shows itself as tranquil in nature but is a deep rooted evil in and of itself.

WOW........your post is an eye opener and insightful.

Hopeful there is more on this hidden evil.

Hi Rodger,

Great post and so very important!!

I also believe vanity is the root.

It is what gives people the desire for free will, and themselves being the decision makers of their lives. Not the Father.

They exault themselves to heaven, even to the throne.(the ruler or decision maker resides on the throne)

You guys are great, such like mindedness!!!

" Vanity...Selflove... that's my favorite sin "

-Al Pacino as Satan in ' Devil's Advocate '.

That's gotta tell you something about Vanity.

I wonder if the saying in scripture, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear, and he who has eyes to see, let him see; might have more than one application.
I think about how many things are judged by their appearance. If we were physically blind, we wouldn't be able to judge anything by how it looks. there are people who are born with all kinds of physical inabilities and handicaps, and how many times do I judge them by their appearance? Boy, the Lord sure showed me some things in my heart that aren't right. I really do need blind eyes to see as God sees.
