Title: The 2nd Resurrection
Post by: Jay on April 04, 2007, 11:31:34 AM
Greetings all,

I happened to be doing some reading on the net regarding the 2nd resurrection and it appears that some believe that the words "the rest of the dead lived not again till the thousand years were finished" is spurious. It is said that these words do not appear in the earliest manuscripts and were an interpolation which occurred sometime during the Dark Ages. So, basically, what they are saying is that there is no thousand year gap between the two resurrections, that the 2nd resurrection occurs during the millenial reign of Christ sometime after the saints are raised and united with the living saints at the 2nd coming of Christ.

Does anyone have any thoughts/info on this?

Thanks.

Peace.

Jay

If you believe in Peter's statement of "A day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as a day, and that Adam and Eve existed about 4000 BC, we would currently be in the finishing stages of the 'sixth' day.

When Christ comes to redeem and further train His blessed and holy, chosen of the called, overcomers at the 1st resurrection (Rev 20:6), a 1000 year, 7th 'rest' day kinda makes sense.

In addition, Rev 20:6's saying '1st resurrection' implies a 2nd.

Hi Jay,
I find this topic intriguing as well.  You might find this thread helpful in which a similar topic is discussed:

http://forums.bible-truths.com/index.php/topic,2749.0.html

It was through this thread that I first learned that the verse you mentioned might be spurious.  That blew me away because it was just another example of having the rug pulled out from under me concerning things I had been taught in the years before bibletruths.com.

But now, having learned what I have here, it starts to make more sense that the 1st and 2nd resurrections may well be at the same time, or one right after the other.

Interesting indeed....

Peace,
Diana

Hi Diana -

Thanks for the link. Interesting. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense that there's no 1000 year gap between the two resurrections. If Christ is to rule the nations with a rod of iron for 1000 years and the unbelievers aren't to be resurrected until after the 1000 years, then who are Christ and His chosen reigning over? There's so much that I've been unlearning its mind-blowing. There's a lot to look forward to! This present age is almost done, which means the next age is coming up with a world under the rulership of Jesus Christ! Can't wait!!!

Peace.

Here is how I see this....

Judgement is NOW on the chosen and later on the called.

The throne of Christ is not returned onto the earth yet and neither has He returned literally. I believe He will return literally but for now He is here Spiritually and manifest in those who are judging themselves and turning to HIM in repentance and supplication with thanks. Others are quite blase and oblivious to this soul type of life that lives in awareness of HIS presence here and now and never leaving or forsaking us.

As He descended from Heaven once to be born He will return again to reign once and for ALL. He will return from the right hand of the Father in Heaven and will return to the world literally. Then the earth will shake and tremble at His sight and in His sight. Then the consuming fire will begin the chastisement of the wicked and the correction of the deceived and the punishment of the rebellious in stages of light medium and heavy measures to bring all to righteousness and eventual right standing with God.

i believe our lives are our personal window of time given for us to see He is here now in Spirit. He  will return tomorrow and this is one and the same for us who see with spiritual eyes that today and tomorrow is ONE for us who are free but it is two for those who divide and rule for the season that it is given to them.

To the worldly, they do not believe He will return and when He does return the world will be shocked, surprised and unsuspecting and unprepared. For a few, they will be accepting, rejoicing and thankful and at peace at last.

For me, the resurrection to life begins when we die in our sins not our body. Yesterday today and tomorrow are  all one. For me, yesterday, today and tomorrow will be consumated as one upon the return of Christ to the earth to commence His heavenly reign and Lordship over the earth. We are in the run up to the Great White Throne Judgement. When it finally arrives there will be no going backwards or forwards into yesterday and tomorrow because the great I AM will be here and NOW,

Peace to you

Arcturus :)
