Title: All Roads lead to Mobile, Alabama
Post by: emkayfey on July 12, 2009, 06:45:54 AM
I am excited Ray is even thinking of a conference this year and I am amazed at his strength...well, God's strength in him. Ray has gone ahead in faith to book the conference hall. I'm joining my faith with his and will be booking a flight from the UK for the event...been yearning for this and I'm sure others are. Any news on registration?

No updates yet. I am watching for them too. I think this is the form you will use once the group is signed up: http://ashburyhotel.com/event_planner.html At least this will give some idea of the location etc. You might try calling them to get put on a list that will be added soon as the conference is set for sure.

Hey, thanks for the hotel registration link, the hotel location information will help in itinerary planning...can't wait.

I'm just curious if there has been any further discussion about a conference this year (2009)?  I want to make sure, god willing that I am able to go and don't want to miss any bit of information passed along about it.  of course I know it's all dependent upon if God allows Ray to proceed based on his health, etc.  But I am praying hard as I am sure everyone else is too.

I believe this is the latest update from Ray:

http://forums.bible-truths.com/index.php/topic,10324.0.html

"I am going to step out on faith and believe that God will improve my condition in the months ahead.  Therefore, I have tentatively reserved a large meeting room in the Mobile, Alabama Ashbury Suites and Conference Center for a November 7th and 8th.  In a couple of weeks I will finalize the subjects I plan to cover, and will inform you of them."

Does anyone know what the nearest international airport to Mobile, Alabama is? (Not Mobile regional), just called the hotel, they suggested New Orleans, I also found Birmingham AL...any idea?

Hey!
My husband is pretty familiar with the area and he said New Orleans is probably the closest... there is an airport in Pensacola but probably not international. New Orleans is only like maybe 150 miles from Mobile..Birmingham is going to be twice as far...Hope that helps.... :)

Panama City, Florida may be an option, though I don't know if it's a very good option.  Are you thinking about flying direct from the UK (?) and driving the remainder?
Title: Re: All Roads lead to Mobile, Alabama

Did just a bit of research and found flights from the UK to Mobile via Memphis, (Tennessee), Houston, (Texas), and Atlanta, (Georgia).  Memphis is a hub for Northwest airlines and their European partner, KLM (The Dutch airline).  Houston and Atlanta are much bigger cities, so probably more flight options.  New Orleans is not a very large city, despite it's fame.

Thank you Ninny and Dave in Tenn,
I'll love to take just one flight and drive for the remainder of the journey, it's looking like New Orleans then and a three hours drive to Mobile (3 hours, according to the receptionist at the venue). Thanks for your help and hope to see yah all.

Greetings everyone. I just wanted to inform the ones who are not familiar with the  New Orleans airport. The airport is actually in Kenner La. which is about 45 min to an hr.away from N.O. From there it is about an hr maby alittle more to where I live. In Slidell La. I live about 15 min from the Miss. state line. From there, I'm guessing 3hrs. to Mobile. Its a nice ride. One can either take the straight shot on the interstate (I-10) or can go the scenic route along the gulf of Mexico (very nice  ride). I plan on going myself. If anyone would like we can hook up at my house and I will lead the way. (just a thought).

It is so exciting to here people are making preliminary plans for the conference.  I did talk to Ray this week and he is determined to have this conference.  I think it is good that he has this to look forward to and I believe it will proceed, of course God willing.  Ray is planning to direct his talks towards our personal relationship with God; how we should be living, how we should study and pray and just what we should be doing.  He wants to show how it all relates to YOU as an individual and your relationship with God.  I think he is going to get into the health aspect of how we live too, as that has been a key factor in his life for the past year.  And yes it was a year ago this month (July) that he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and only given 6 months to live.

He will still want everybody who plans to attend the conference to register with him, but he will not be putting restrictions on how many can attend like last time.  This place is bigger and he thinks it will accommodate whoever shows up.

He also wants to finish up an article he has been working on for some time now, it's on the book 23 Minutes In Hell by Bill Wiese.  He hopes to put that up on his site before the conference.

Hoping to see many of this forum family at the conference  :)

You can get nonstop flights from the UK to Atlanta (I don't think you can to New Orleans) and then just a short flight down to Mobile.

Kat noted that Ray wanted everyone who wants to be at the conference to register with him, is this just by email of is there a particular avenue for doing this?

Thanks Patrick and everyone who have suggested route and directions, especially Darren, whom I hope to take up on the offer for djourney together to conference from his placefrom his place.

Ray will post a letter and give instructions on how to register, but you can email him with any questions.

Dave, Bates Field is the Mobile airport or at least Bates Field is on the outskirts of Mobile.

FYI:

From the Ashbury Hotel and Suites website (http://www.ashburyhotel.com/conference_center.html)

The Ashbury Hotel’s conference center has Mobile’s largest ground level meeting and conference space. Our professional conference center is perfect for business meetings and conferences for 20-600 people.

Our 13,000 square foot Conference Center offers a variety of room arrangements and a beautifully landscaped courtyard for a breath of fresh air. We offer fax and copy services, as well as telephones and high speed wireless internet access, all for your convenience.

Looks like they'll be plenty of room...this should make registration easier for everyone compared to last year. Hope to see you all there.  :)

I don't know about anyone else but I am chomping at the bit to register.  I'm scared I will miss the go ahead msg to register and it will get all filled up or somehow it will end up being limited numbers only able to attend.  I do pray that God will allow me to attend because I really want to go~  I just put in for vacation during those dates.

The Conference room can hold up to 600 people...that's plenty in regards to past attendance. Everyone may not have a room at the Ashbury Hotel but that is not as important to actually attending the conference.

Don't worry...God is over all causes and circumstances...it will be up to HIM as to whether we even have this conference and who will be there. Just trust Him.  :)

Not sure how they came up with those numbers, must be the new math.  ;D
The chart at the bottom of the page, on the link provided, lists how many people any one Ballroom can hold with different seating configurations;
Camelia Ballroom; theater seating=450
Jasmine Ballroom=350
Dogwood Ballroom (the Conference room used since I've been going to Mobile, with the exception of the one time at the Library)=350.
I think the past Mobile/Ashbury conferences have been set up as classroom seating.

Nevertheless, as Marques stated;

Yes emkayfey, I am dead serious. I would love to have some company for the trip. I feel I can not miss this one. I'm still kicking myself for missing the last conf. If worse comes to worse I will bring my own food and sleep in my car. If it is God's will that I attened, then I will be there. In fact I am buying a new car (new to me) for the trip.

When I talked to Ray last week, he mentioned that he is reserving more seating than Nashville, but it would not be 200.  I think you can have those rooms sectioned off and pay for a smaller amount of seats.  After not being able to get a accurate count of those who would attend at the last conference and the number fluctuating during the conference, he is not going to make it necessary for everyone to register for a seat.  But he does want everyone to register with him if they plan to come.

Sorry if this looks disjointed, posted from Phone.
Dave UK has found a US Airways flight from Gatwick to Bates Field which we now understand is in Mobile, we have booked the flight, arriving 2 days before, and leaving a day after the conference.

Thanks a lot Darren for the willing offer of driving down together from New Orleans? but we will now be landing in Mobile itself. Next hurdle is booking accommodation. See y'all in Mobile AL.

Hi
Our flight won't be direct from London to Mobile as we initially thought.we first fly to Charlotte then connect to  another flight to Bates Field .I'm not sure whether Charlotte is closer to Mobile than New Orleans or not.
It will be my first time to USA so I'm really looking forward to it.Pity I cant stay a bit longer.Karen and I have got this fantasy about hiring a car and having a USA road trip, route 66 and the rest. Oh well ! perhaps one day.
Needless to say I'm very excited about being able to attend the conference, as well as being able to meet Ray and many of you on the forum in person.

Praying that everything works out! It'll be a shame if it doesn't, I'm so close!!! AND meeting everyone will be the best!!

Just a heads up to our members outside the US.  There is really no possibility of flying from Europe/UK or Australasia directly into Mobile, Alabama.  Mobile is a small city on the Gulf of Mexico with a regional airport which serves business and vacation travellers within the US.  You CAN make connecting flights from many cities in the US.  The closest one would be New Orleans.  That flight would be less than an hour.

If you are really wanting to drive part of the way, New Orleans is certainly the closest and also an interesting destination in itself.

If you want to fly into Mobile, however, any city in the US Southeast would be a comfortable flight time-wise to/from Mobile.  The biggies would be Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Memphis, Nashville, Charlotte, Atlanta, and Miami and the rest of Florida.  There may be others.  There would be so little difference in flight times between these cities (including New Orleans) and Mobile as to make it an insignificant part of the decison-equation.  I'd really suggest just considering cost, schedule, and/or the quality of the stopover in making a decision.

Traveller Dave out.

Everyone, I know there is excitement building, but do not make reservations and such until things are finalized.  When that happens Ray will announce it.  Because of health concerns he may wait until later to make the announcements.  It would be terrible to purchase airline tickets only to find out the date is changed, etc.

Everyone take a deep breath. :)

I just wanted to share an email that I received from Ray...it seems an announcement will be coming shortly. I still wouldn't book any travel plans until it's official though.

Subject: 2009 Mobile Conference

Dear Ray:

I am a relatively new member on the Bible Truths Forum and in fact this is my first email to you.  We are all so excited about attending a conference in November and are praying that GOD gives you the health, strength, and wisdom for you to be able to make this come to fruition.  Kathy suggested that I email you to ask if you will please add my name to the attendees list for this year?  I am so thankful to GOD for the knowledge that he has chosen to impart through you.  I will keep you in my prayers.
Warmly in Christ,
Jill

Dear Jill:  Actually, I have not formally announced a Bible Conference as yet, but we did book the meeting room yesterday

at the Ashbury Hotel Suites and Convention Center here in Mobile.  Meetings will be on the 7th and 8th of November.

I will put a formal announcement at the top of our bible-truths home page as soon as I work out a tentative schedule of

topics to be covered.  Looking forward to meeting you in November.  Be sure to make your presence known to me at

the Conference.

God be with you,

Ray

Well, too late for us (I and Dave UK) to change anything now, we've already deposited for the tickets and are neck deep in this now. In any case, we went ahead because we join our faith with Ray's in believing that the conference will hold as tentatively scheduled. Craig is so right that the excitement is building up, and Iam very happy to hear that the hall has been booked. God has preserved Ray through all odd, and it our prayer He will keep him for a long time to come. So all road still lead to Mobile AL.

Okay  waiting on a word as to whether we have a conference or not.  I have a question here for everyone?  I just read where Ray was in harsh pain for 2 months in his spine and others parts of his body.  This has got to take a lot out of him.  Preparing for a conference is a lot of work on him.  We don't want to rush things and have him running himself down either  that is not good for his health.  Rest is primary, good nutrition, and no stress.  Who is going to do all the work?  His wife has been the untold worker in helping Ray get better too.  She deserves our appreciation not more work.
Title: Re: All Roads lead to Mobile, Alabama

Hi Peggy,

Ray is not being coerced or persuaded into putting on this conference, as far as I know it was his idea and I think he is capable of making this kind of decision.  He is well aware of the present state of his health, what it has been and I think he has weighted very carefully what will be required of him to accomplish a conference.  Besides he has put on many conferences in the pass and knows exactly what is required of him.  I kind of think that having this kind of objective would be good for him, help motivate him and take his mind off his pains somewhat.

Ray has always done all his own work researching and typed his own papers for his site and for the conferences.  Actually I really don't know how anyone could help him with this, as it's a spirit lead work.  But he does have people he is close to, should he desire to ask for any kind of assistance.  Now if he is hampered and not able to put as much work into preparing for this conference, I'm sure that whatever he comes up with will be well worth hearing.  We all know that whatever is done will be according to God's will and be thankful regardless.

Kat,
I started to write earlier saying the same thing..but I knew there was someone who could say it better, someone who actually knows Ray!
I have learned from reading and listening to him so many times that Ray Smith goes forward if God says GO! That's just what makes him tick!! If God gives him the ok, We will have a conference, if God says no then it won't happen! At any rate you're right, whatever happens and whatever comes out of it will be a blessing to all of us, including Ray! :D

Hi Peggy,

I believe Ray first mentioned having a conference and he is the only one that knows if he's up to it.  I don't think anybody was talking to him about having a conference, if anything he was cautioned about taking on too much.  Ray does not do the physical set up or take down, the hotel will take care of most of it, but Dennis and others handle the technical equipment set for him.  Just want to let you know that there is no need to be concerned, Ray has a good amount of wisdom and he will do the right thing  ;)

Does anyone know....?

When we make reservations for the Hotel, do we need to use a group name or number?

Thanks,
Brenda

I believe Ray will announce any needed conference info at a later time, which will be announced on the main website (http://bible-truths.com/). Normally, Dennis places an update notice on the forum for all as well.

The Ashbury Hotel allows you to reserve a room now and then, at a later date, add any needed group information.

Hope this helps,

Marques

Usually I toss food all over the floor to keep them off of the bed.  But they are very territorial, at least the mutated ones I'm used to dealing with.

Musicman, you know they lie on your chest at night when you sleep and perch on the side of your cereal bowl, in the morning!! They wait anxiously for your return in the evening!! They love you, dude!! You're so nice to them! You know you shouldn't feed the wild creatures!!  ::)

Hi
Flight booked, visa sorted, and booked in at the Ashbury I'm on my way, can hardly believe it is happening.I'm really looking forward to meeting up with everyone at the conference. It will also be my first visit to the States, so to say I'm excited is a bit of an under statement, pity I couldn't stay longer.

Do we need to get a confirmation from Ray regarding attending the Bible conference?  when I emailed Ray, he just asked for my name and address.  He didn't give me any confirmation number for attending the conference.

also, did everyone whose staying at the hotel get a confirmation from them?  They told me they didn't have email capability and couldn't email it to me.

hi jacob,
regarding confirmation from ray, i just emailed him directly and told him i would be attending the conference. i received an email back from him confirming my attendance. no confirmation numbers needed from him. i need to contac the ashbury just to make sure they still are holding my reservation because i made the initial reservation a while back. look forward to meeting you there.

JL,
the Hotel did give me a conformation # when I made my reservation..So you should maybe call them. they should have given you a conf. number when you made your reservation..
Ray didn't give us a confirmation, just "see you at the conference!"
Now you gotta pray for me that I am brave enough to make that little trip alone!! it's only 3 hours! I'm a big coward!!  :D really..

Praying to God to bestow upon Ray all the strength and clarity he needs to do this coming conference. Hoping all will have safe journey's and God's spirit will move mightily upon all who attend.

You're all a great blessing to me & those few like minded friends & family who study with me over here in Nottingham, England. We are few but we keep it real.

God's will be done, as it always will be. Amen.

Can you imagine a 2 day Holy Ghost, Spirit Led Gathering.

Does anyone know if non forum members are welcome at the conference,  I have a colleague I've been speaking to and giving some of Ray's writings to, he is really interested in coming.

Your colleague would be welcomed, as it is open to all that read at the BT site.  Actually there is more non-forum attendees at the conferences than forum members.

mercy, peace and love

Well Ray does like cats.  If Carrie showed up, it'd sound like one fighting and scratching in the dead of night.  I'd welcome her with a cattle prod.
