Title: An invitation to forum musicians
Post by: Roy Martin on June 06, 2009, 10:37:13 AM
I'm a bass player and rhythm guitar, a lot of finger picking. I've been playing for 45 years.
Can I get anyone interested in something that I think God has laid on my heart?
It will start with someone making up a simple melody on guitar or keyboards or horn or whatever instrument, it doesn't matter, and pass it on to another musician to add his part of which will be his or hers own feel to it. I know there is an order to recording. We will do it right.
I have a good friend that owns and operates a pro. recording studio to mix it down. He use to be Buddy Holly's guitar player.
This has to be something done in spirit, one spirit with many different talents and styles. Vocals and instruments of all kinds.
Who knows where God will take it if its done with the right heart and intentions to be playing to God. Yea, God likes music or He wouldn't have put it in us.
Come on someone and many, get with me on this. Lets be the first and only to do it the right way.
Can you imagine how awesome the music will end up with God leading each ones heart as they add their part and feel to it?         (One Spirit)
Peace
Roy

Sounds like a good idea Roy.  Wish I could help but thus far my guitar playing has a long way to go.  My husband said my version of "Wild Thing" is unrecognizable >:(  I just tell him he is tone deaf.

Good luck with this venture.  I hope you find some takers.

I saw this 5-6 years ago as I was praying for God to show me His plan for me. It was as if a video was turned on in my head. I could see it as clear as this screen in front of me, but more clearer. It was a band on a stage at night time. I couldn't see any faces, just people playing. I was seeing multiple things at one time.
Tens of thousands of people with their arms in the air, but not to the band. Clouds were rolling off of the stage, not the fog machine thing, real clouds. Above the stage glowing beyond description was Jesus with arms wide open with all the stars in the sky as His back ground. The music being played was in Spirit led by Spirit. None of that rehearsed stuff with a person being the leader or star. All the way through this vision I kept hearing and seeing the words, ( One Spirit). I know that some might question if it was a vision. Call it what you want. I know what God showed me. It has never left me except for a burning passion to make it happen. Several times I tried to get worldly musicians to get a band together but I was the one as Craig stated, the one trying to lead it and get it going, but each time I would get disappointed. I would pray about it and God would say no, its not time. A combination of topics and the Spirit moving in me says its time now.
The vision was real, my passion and sincerity is real. This time it is God leading, and me following.
In time I will explain the rest of the vision. For now to all that will be involved, I have to say nothing because God told me to take this step and He will send the musicians that will be in Spirit, One Spirit.
It will not end with one song, I promise.
One Spirit

I'm in Roy. Singer, song writer. Can't play a lick, but could melt people like butter with a song. As I stated in a post somewhere else, I've been holding on the the website FreeJesusNow.com, .net, .org for a few months. If we could use it in some way, I'm open. Let me know.

I'll give some prayer as to whether or not to participate.  At present, music is on the side-lines and I'm approaching it very much as I would 'public praying' in that it's not a sin, but it's not the best way to go and contains in it a temptation to sin.

I've left my recording equipment behind, so won't be able to participate that way.  I still have the ability to mix/produce digital tracks and some experience in projects similar to this, so I'm open to that if need be.

I also have a fairly fleshed-out instrumental piece/sketch/demo looking for lyrics and/or additional players.  I know that's not what this idea is about...just throwing that out there.

Hello Dave,
Its not for me to nudge you in this direction. It would have to be God that leads you and speaks to you.
As I said somewhere either in my post or Larissa's that this isn't about entertainment or self gain. This is and will be entirely different from anything we have done in music. Its not going to be one bit about us except God working through us with the one spirit talent that He wants us to use in the way He wants us to use it.
Babylon has to be behind us in this. Nothing can or will be like that of the past in this.
I dont think God wants us to give up our talents because we use to do it wrong.
Anyone that wants to be involved has got to hear from God about it.
And thank you Dave in any way you can help. I'm waiting for replies which might take a few days.
It cant be just me organizing this. I know and trust that all of this is in Gods hands.

Hi Larissa,

In Matthew it says Jesus was with the disciples and they "sung a hymn," and we can be quite sure that Jesus sang with them too.

Mat 26:20  When it was evening, He sat at table with the twelve disciples;
Mat 26:30  And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Well now I'm really in. I am alittle worried about recording anything though. I don't desire to sell music, I know you don't either Roy. I just wanna sing. I wanna share this ability that God has given me....but...I agree with George too. I don't want it to be carnal. I just have to be honest with motives...daily...minute by minute. For now, I'm gonna post a song I wrote today and just leave the rest to God.

Music does amazing things to people. It can also be used for evil. I'm sitting here watching my 1 & 3 year old now. (Although they should've been in bed along time ago) But here is what just happened: My 3yr old just walked in my room and turned on my alarm (which plays music). I didn't even know he could do that. My one year old heard it and came running in the room dancing! That made me remember when they were really small. I mean like just learning to sit up. They would hear music and start bouncing! It was the cutest thing. I remember thinking "How do they know to do that?" How do they know to move and bounce and dance. It's amazing! How do their little minds know to try to dance when they hear a beat? idk.

Thanks be to God...
Larissa

Larissa, You are right about the music doing things to people. Sometimes you can reach a difficult child through music. Music touches something deep inside. Babies instinctively move to the rhythm. I have a 10 month old grandson whose face lights up when the music comes on. Sometimes the tv is on and the show Little Einsteins comes on, they use the music of the classical composers on that show and it gets his attention immediately!

My two year old grandson showed us he was coming back to us from his brain tumor surgery suddenly one night about two weeks out from the surgery we were watching the movie Madagascar and the silly song "I Like to Move It" was playing and he got down in the floor and was dancing!! He called each one of us to dance with him!! I've told it before, but there was a lot of dancing, crying and singing going on that night!! I have that song as a ringtone on my cell phone as a reminder of the joy of music!

Music is so important for healing, and touching and reaching out. Music means a lot of things to a lot of people, but it is clear to see that God gave us music for a reason. It lifts you up, it inspires you, and it heals you!!

The Bible tell us that the morning stars sang together!!

Rom 15:9 YLT)  and the nations for kindness to glorify God, according as it hath been written, `Because of this I will confess to Thee among nations, and to Thy name I will sing praise,'

(Heb 2:12 YLT)  saying, `I will declare Thy name to my brethren, in the midst of an assembly I will sing praise to Thee;' and again, `I will be trusting on Him;'

(Jas 5:13 YLT)  Doth any one suffer evil among you? let him pray; is any of good cheer? let him sing psalms;

(Rev 5:9 YLT)  and they sing a new song, saying, `Worthy art thou to take the scroll, and to open the seals of it, because thou wast slain, and didst redeem us to God in thy blood, out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation,

(Rev 15:3 YLT)  and they sing the song of Moses, servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, `Great and wonderful are Thy works, O Lord God, the Almighty, righteous and true are Thy ways, O King of saints,

Larissa,
This post has been read 135 times and you are the only one so far that has agreed to get involved.
This is in no way about money or personal gain. Its about the music in us, singing psalms with a joyful noise, and sharing it with the forum.
Larissa if no one wants to get involved with you and me then we will do it by ourselves. You sing and I'll do three instruments and my friend Larry who owns the studio and ex Buddy Holly guitar player can add some tracks. The thing is, I really thought that all these people that put down the churches doing it wrong would have jumped right in with us by now, but as I told you yesterday that God will be teaching us something in what we are about to do.
Perhaps I'm getting in too big of a hurry.
I know that God is leading us Larissa in this, sooo I need to be patient.
Come on all you musicians, get out of the flesh and into the Spirit.
Yesterday I told Dave that its not for me to nudge him into this, but maybe I was wrong. We all need a little push sometimes to get going. Its just that I would rather let God do the nudging, but sometimes He does that through people doesn't He?  Perhaps I get get some encouraging words from members to get others involved.
Roy

The way this will work is when the Cd comes to you, you listen and work up your part the way you feel it and hear it. Take to someone that can record your part to it and pass it on to the next person. Just about all you musicians know someone that has recording equipment. I'm looking to do at least six songs. When its finished, we will share it with the forum.

Peace & Love

Sorry all I can offer is encouragement.  Do get this started even if it is only you and Larissa for now.  I know we have had musicians here in the past, but people don't check in here everyday.  So give this some time to see who comes around.  God will add to it as He sees fit.

Hi not sure if we can help but  I sing and do some harmony and my husband plays lead and rythem giutar and does beautiful finger pickling, I play a little drums and Bass Guitar. We until recently had a country classic rock band but the lead singer had to move away for work. My husband has been playing professionally for about 30 years, we have both written some origional stuff, and we have all the equipment and ability to record etc in the basement all set up......my husband has not really ever been involved in music that is of the genre you are talking about, I think he would be game though because he loves music. I used to be a "worship leader in church" but of course that fell by the wayside after finding bible truths...can't sing songs to God that are not true! let me know ok I mean we are way up here in Northern Alberta Canada, but it is amazing what one can do with a computer! ;D

Wow! I was reading a post of yours this morning and as I looked at your side picture I thought to myself to send you a PM. Both of you have that musician look. Well anyway I decided that you will notify me if you were interested and sure enough you did. I think that's just how God works.
Welcome to this idea. I'm excited again. I can see now how this can be a multiple thing at one time.
I have access to a studio here. I tell you what, I'll Pm you my phone#.
Again, thank you for wanting to be involved.

Wow!!!

Roy, I was thinking about the same thing recently.  I have had a desire to write and play music that glorifies the Lord in the new ways of learning about him through Ray's teachings. However having the problem that not any of my musician friends have been brought to the truth. I have always had to "settle" with side projects and "church music" to express myself musically. (Lately they have all disappointed me and left me feeling so unfulfilled >:()  So.... This tread is really good news to me. :D

I'm IN!!!

I will send you a PM with my contact info.

An update; Its June 9th.
Larissa, roundbellygroove and me, and barrabus,if he can make it,will be meeting this weekend to fellowship and start our first session. We anticipate that this will expand as God leads it. We all know that God does things in a big way when it comes to Glorifying Himself.
The invitation still stands to all musicians. We can't have too many. We will simply have several projects from different locations. I don't want anyone left out and neither does God.

Today is not just another day. Its a brand new day. ;D

Ok. So I just wanted to put this out there.

If I wanted to make money singing...I could. This is not what God desires for me.
If I wanted to record albums...I could. This is not what God desires for me.

I just wanna sing truthful songs to those who will listen. Period. I just desire God. Day and night. There so much that I don't understand in the Word, but even before I knew what I now know I always thought it was wrong to sell wisdom or knowledge. I still do. I also think its wrong to sell music.

I JUST WANNA SING! THAT'S IT! Now that I have a few people that would like to hear I'm excited because for me it is an awesome blessing to be able to share this with others, but not for money. Not for me. And not for fame. YUCK!

Ok. I'm done.

Still needing more musicians. Harmonica players, horns, violin, vocals, etc.
Song writers, lyrics, ideas and suggestions.

I'm not much more than a novice musician myself. The first time I was tossed into playing bass with a group of professional musicians, I wanted to hide behind my amp. I didn't know one song from beginning to end and these guys were way too good for me, but as it turned out after two months that they had never seen someone excel and learn as fast as I did. We became as good as any band out there fast. This was a band pure carnal. Just imagine how it can and will be being a band in Spirit.
Don't be afraid to test your talent. You would be surprised how good you can sound with someone working with you to get you into the groove.
 The invitation still stands.

In Christ and love

It's was such an amazing thing to be in front of such great musicians! Now, if you let them tell it, it was nothing...but to this one...it was something special.

When she said she had a gift to sing she left some things out. This girl has a voice straight from God.
When she sang the first word, it sent chills all over me. You guys and girls don't have a clew to what your in store for. I'm telling you it was absolutely awesome. This isn't  Americas Got Talent, its The Forums got talent.
Having said that, it was a great day of fellowship, getting to know each other and sharing with each other.
Larissa didn't get to sing  much because roundbelly and I spent a lot of time working out our guitar parts.
This is going to take some time to have a finished CD but will be well worth the wait.
Its for certain that we are all being led by the Spirit in this. It was very different than any jam session Ive ever been a part of. We will be spending a lot of time and wont be dragging our feet on this. It was just too Spiritual to procrastinate.
Get ready to witness an example of Gods given talent used the way it should be.

Peace
Roy

Here's my two cents worth...

Personally I had a real good time and left rather refreshed and encouraged. I know we showed up to play music but I really think our fellowship with one another was the order of the day. Before I had a chance to unload my equipment we were engaged in a conversations about scriptural truths that we have learned from Ray's teachings and from the forum. Understand I am really alone in my understandings here in Bryan/College Station. The University here has a dominant "conservative and religious" background but yet no scriptural truths or foundation. :( So the first thing that I noticed right off is that regardless of our cultural history and background everything we talked about was of the same spirit. We really did not argue or get offended at each others experiences. As a matter of fact we shared very similar experiences in discovering the Lord's truths and the testing/trials that we go through.  That alone was priceless. I know that we have fellowship here on the forum but, there is defiantly a different kind of impact when you are able to meet face to face with another believer. To me there is a lot that can be lost in interpretation when you can only read someones words. There are facial expressions, body language, dialect and overall attitude you get to observe when meeting up in person. That energy is contagious!  Again I left very refreshed and encouraged in the faith that is shared here on the forum.

I would suggest anyone to meet up with other believers of our same faith and understanding from time to time and share testimonies, dreams, songs, poems, scriptural inspirations and experiences. You will know real quick if they are of the same spirit. Besides Father God is amazingly good at synchronizing his children in uniform truths. You will be able to spot a fake pretty quick.

Anywho, Now about the music... First of all I want to make this statement after my observations of our "music meeting". I believe that Father God has saved and preserved the very best of the talent for his purpose. Larissa's vocal range and detail is off the chart! ;D Also Roy, don't cut yourself short. You were able to blend in and contribute straight from the heart.  That in itself is the gift. I have been around so many different types of musicians and regardless of musical knowledge or experience; the best musicians are the ones that can express themselves from the core of their heart. Both of you, Larissa and Roy posses that coveted ability. Listen to most modern day songs. All polished and perfect with catchy phrases but, yet no heart. I really believe that BEST talent available is for Gods purposes. ;)

So Roy I will get writing more song ideas and get them to you and Larissa soon. For those of you reading this with some type of artistic talent big or small. I encourage you gather together and encourage each other with it. Its for King and to edify and lift up the body of Christ. :)

So what are you waiting for... Get to work!!! ;)

Oh, By the way Larrisa. Don't be fooled I can hide my roundbelly really good. :D

Man, so refreshing and so true are the words you've posted Roundbelly! It was an amazing experience to hear and see others using their gift without reservations, but the best part by far was the ONE Spirit. How cool is that? It was/IS something truly special. I look forward to future fellowship with even more of the folks here on the forum next time. And Roy...keep that foot-a-tapping! It's great!

Great job hiding it by the way "roundbelly".

Noel said it much better than I did.
This isn't just for musicians and or music. Its for anyone that wants to be there for the fellowship and sharing with each other. We were together for 7 hours, but could have taken it to 2:00 in the morning easy.
Noel and I were just warming up when I had to go. We started at 10:00 and ended at 5:00pm.
I'm looking forward to our next get together which will be, hopefully July.
God willing, barrabus will be able to make it next time.
Its going to keep getting better.

Hi Roy I'm new to the forum. This will be my 4Th post. Thanks so much for your warm welcome, by the way!
So wow, just got done reading all the posts on this thread. I have to say I'm pretty excited about this.

Now I also have to say I am not a musician. I've only picked up my flute a few times since grade school and I'd have to stand on a really high mountain to see how far back that was. I'm not a singer either although I love to sing, do it all the time in the shower and the car.
I did sing with the church choir on and off for a few years in my church days. That was awhile ago. Needless to say I'm an armature, no formal training and in my opinion just OK.

I am also not a writer, lyricist,or poet. As a matter of fact I never wrote anything other than an occasional letter here and there up until a year or so before the Lord called me out of the church. This is where it gets interesting about this thread at least for me.

I stated in my introduction and testimony that I was being taught of God alone for the last five years before finding bibletruths.com and this forum. During that time and even a few years before , as I was being called out of the church I did a lot of journaling. Much of only now is starting to make since to me. I know the Lord was using it all to teach and prepare me for the real Truth of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. I was going through so much turmoil at times and other times unbelievable awe and comfort from the Lord and His Word. In any case I would express myself on paper as my heart would pour out to the Lord the things that He was pouring into me through His Spirit and His Word. If that makes any sense. Much of my writing is in retrospect of all that the Lord has brought me through and the truths of His Word He was teaching me.

There seems to be poems or lyrics or hymns or spiritual songs in much of it although I dont know for sure , because like I said I  have never had, before that time, any of those kinds of talents nor been trained. I do sing some of them to the Lord, so I guess some could be considered songs. I say all that to say this; I will start posting some of the things I've written on the poems and inspiriational board. You can tell me what you think if you want, not to put you on the spot. I was going to post some on there anyway, just to share and hopefully encourage someone. I know we all come from different circumstances, but the one thing we do share and have in common is our love of the truth in the testimony of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! If you could ever use anything I've written in your quest, I would love to help out in this way. Just let me know.

Your sister in Christ, Crystal

crystal,
in reading through your posts so far, and then reading your post on this thread, i was thinking to myself that you have a wonderful way of expressing yourself. some of the statements in your posts could be the beginnings of some great lyrics. so i imagine your journal contains much of the same inspiring phrases. i mentioned in a pm to roy that i thought it would be cool to read through all the posts on the different threads and pull out some of the Spirit filled statements and thougths by our forum family members. i am sure there are many, many lyrics waiting to be put to music. what a wonderful resource of Truths contained in our collective posts.

just wanted to let you know that you have a gift for putting your thoughts on paper (or in this case, the computer keyboard).

claudia

As long as your motives are pure I don't think you all should be so leery of fame and fortune. Why don't you leave that to God too. My sister just retired from the music industry after 25 years, she is not jaded nor has her sweetness been reduced. I have met so many musicians through her and her husband, a lawyer for some of the top names in music history. I attribute my sister's integrity  to her middle American background and 12 yrs. of Christian education. Her husband is from Alaska, the son of a single mother. He worked his way up from nothing, traveled all over the world and is still the nice and fair guy he started out as. Just letting you know of a few but good connections. Judy

Thank you Crystal. I would love to read the words inspired by the Spirit that you have wrote.
Claudia, a.k.a. C.J. Wood suggested to me a few days ago this very idea to search all the post and replies as so many are very spiritually inspired and wonderful, poetic and lyrical, trials and journeys, testimony's and words of wisdom and wit. Its all here. Song titles and ideas are beyond measure. Truth and understanding.
Check out some of hillsbororivers post. He's a poet and don't know it.
Dont worry, you and no one will ever be putting me on the spot. This project isn't about that. Its about capturing the spiritual heart such as yours and anyone else here that wants to get involved, or just be a part of the fellowship.
I started the invitation but I am not the leader. All of us are simply being led by the spirit just as you are.

Peace & love

Crystal and Claudia your ideals are absolutely wonderful. There are enough truths on this forum and in Rays papers and in the word to keep us busy for many eons. LOL! Judy I like your "pure motives" part. I know that you are right and I believe we wil all leave this up to God.

I excited about the next gathering. I'll be back in town the 27th and I'm open after that so just let me know when. By the way, God has been sharing and showing such awesome revelations and truth to me in His word lately. The forum has been a safe haven for me. Although I get bumps and bruises here, the Lord has grown me up in so many areas of my life by giving me the refuge and place of learning. I'm so very thankful to you all. Sorry, I know I got off subject. I'm just so thankful for what we have here.

For my part if any I will continue to post on the poems and inspirational board. Use what ever you can as the Lord leads.

What I meant was food and amazing fellowship. Both Roundbelly and Roy shared their testimony last time and it was of course...priceless. Thanks be to God.

Not that I can come, but I've maybe missed any info about where this gathering is taking place.

Still have a piece that could be of use as a basic track...just bass, drums, and some keyboards doing the chord-work.  If you want to hear it, let me know and I'll post it up somewhere.  It could be edited to fit whatever 'song' comes up from it, and tracks could be added or removed since I still have the project in seperate tracks.  All in .wav format right now, but I could post the demo in a streamable/compressed format.

If you want six, this might be one of them.  I've also got other 'instrumentals' that I'd be happy to turn over to a lyricist/singer.

Very unlikely I'll be able to go anywhere in person (unless ya'll are close to west tennessee) but I've done a bunch of songwriting/recording collaborations over the internet.

Shout if any of that is of any interest.

Your son plays Alto!! Cool!! I play Alto!
I'm not sure the cost to rent but I'll look up.
I rather not play a rented horn anyway unless its a professional model.
But not likely.
I'll check around here and see!
My brother has my old horn which was my first, I doubt its in working condition.
It would be so great to get another sax! Get my axe back and chop some heads off!!LOL

This show was put on in the church I left. I was there. These guys grew up in this church. The music seemed awesome. They perform there once a month.
Is there something wrong with this.? The light show, the lyrics. I ask because I don't know. It feels to me that performing like this is OK as long as the heart and intentions are right, but I don't have enough wisdom to know. My heart says something, but I don't always trust my heart. I have been fooled too many times.
I don't know if performing this way is about worship or just performance. These guys love and are as good of guys as you can meet. They seem very passionate about God.
This link isn't about teaching, its just another music link. Excellent musicians and song writing.
What do any of you think?

I can't count the times that I was moved while listening to the music while I was in Babylon. Many times it would almost bring me to my knees. Just listening to Gods creation of music and praising Him at the same time was always a wonderful feeling. Times I would have tears of joy, times it was tears of sorrow for my sins. I use to get more out of the music than I did the sermon. Music has a way of opening our hearts to God in several ways. I don't know about anyone else but I would rather my children be at something like the video in the church than out there in the world doing drugs or whooping it up at a worldly rock concert.
Look at these people with there hands in the air. The young people were always a sight to see while the music was playing. They feel no shame at all. They get down to worshiping God with music. I always thought it was a blessing to watch these young people while the adults usually just stand there, maybe clap their hands from time to time. Ashamed to open their heart and let the spirit move them.
Music is good and should be enjoyed. I don't know what the light shows are about, but I like that too. It gets distracting sometimes, but I don't think its bad in any way. Just colorful.
Just sharing some thoughts and feelings and saying something good for a change about what is going on in the church building. I know that God is there too. He might not dwell there, but He is there working in people and through them.

Roy,
You are right I too have been very blessed by the worship and when a worship team is into worshiping God there is no comparison! I have been to these things, too. The church I left has an awesome worship team. We should never minimize what God is doing in any of these places it is for us to be what God wants us to be!! I have seen the young people on their knees worshiping God. He is in control of everything! We may have been "called out", but God uses every effort to bring glory to Himself!! We have to be sensitive to all these things...
Kathy ;)

BTW I did enjoy that video!

Is there something wrong with this.? The light show, the lyrics. I ask because I don't know.

You asked, so I'm answering.   :)

A couple of weeks ago, there was a blues festival in a nearby town.  I'm not a blues 'historian', but I do love the stuff.  My younger sister asked me if I would like to go with her and her husband (babylonians both) to a concert on a sunday night...which happened to be the last night of this blues festival.  The name of the act was Big Daddy Weaves (as best as I remember).  I'd never heard of 'him', but it sounded like a blues act to me!  My sister also knew the 'promoter' and was determined that I meet him--in order to advance my musical career, I'm certain.

They came and picked me up, and it took a few minutes for it to sink into my brain that we were NOT heading to the blues-fest as I had thought, but were instead headed to a church for a concert of contemporary Christian music--not at all unlike what was in your You-tube links.

I was disappointed, but felt sure I would survive the experience.   ;)  I don't think I was intentionally misled, just confused.

We got there about a half-hour before the concert started, and the atmostphere was pleasant.  I couldn't quite shake the feeling that I did NOT belong there, but that didn't mean I needed to escape.  I was happy for the aisle seat just in case they started singing the praises of Satan and the justice of eternal torment, or attacking the soveriegnty of God

We got a paper handout since it was a sunday night and this 'concert' replaced whatever this church ordinarily did on sunday nights.  What caught my eye was the advertisements.  Essentially, the concert was sponsored by several local and regional businesses (including some quite large ones).  It was also promoted by a local christian radio station.  So...even before it started, I had the impression that this was simply an imiatation of 'the world' dressed up in christian clothes.

There were two acts involved...this Big Daddy outfit and a local band that opened for them.  I got myself prepped to either enjoy or leave in protest, whichever came first.  The first band got started, the music began and the bandmembers began to join in to bring the crowd to attention.

Then it happened.  The leader of the first act began to urge everybody to their feet.  He said, as best I can remember to quote him, "You can't worship sitting down!", he said.  "At least that's what I think."

At that moment, the words of Christ came to my mind.

Joh 4:22  Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
Joh 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Joh 4:24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

In my spirit, I rebuked that young man.  Oh, for the strength to stand up one day and preach this!  'Just because you play a guitar does not give you the right to contradict the words of Christ.  I don't
care what you think.  Jesus said the hour is coming and NOW IS that neither in this mountain NOR in Jerusalem will we worship the Father.  How much LESS whether we sit or stand, clap or fold our hands, laugh or cry, are exuberant or still.  NEITHER are right or wrong.  BOTH are WORTHLESS in and of themselves.  If we don't worship in Spirit and Truth we cannot say we are worshipping.'

"You can't worship sitting down...at least that's what I think."  Man, that statement sums up so much of what is wrong with churchianity.

That theme continued through both bands sets, with occasional wisdom peeking through otherwise near constant musical, lyrical, and spoken appeals to 'dance, be foolish, etc.'  Now, the second band in particular was quite good, but I could have 'worshipped' like that better at the blues-fest!  And would have!   :D

When it was all over, I wanted to leave there so I could resume the worship I was living before I got in, but my sister insisted we go and meet the 'promoter'.  I'm kinda glad she did, because I got a good look backstage where they had the merchandise tables set-up and kids and adults were crowding around buying up the T-shirts, CD's and other trinkets, as I waited for the Lord Jesus to show up with his fashioned whip.

We finally found the promoter and it all fell into place perfectly.  He met me, and asked my sister, "How did you like the show?"

Glory to God!  "How did you like the show?"  I didn't need to hear anything else.

Show-Business.  Got it.

Roy, it isn't that I think music is evil.  I don't.  It isn't that I think music with a christian message is evil.  I don't.  It isn't that I think everything that goes on inside the walls of every church is evil.  I don't.  The churches hold everything from the finest, most humble people on earth to the worst of sinners who heap hypocracy on top of all their other stinking sins.  They hold everything from the finest and most sincere expressions of faith to the vilest and cheapest of merchandisers of the gospel.  GOD KNOWS HEARTS.  He knows them better than we know our own.  But when it comes to worship, I don't want this, that, or any other Mountain, city, feeling, position, emotion, company, inclusion, exclusion, hypocracy, temptation, apearance of evil, evil itself or anything OTHER than The Spirit of GOD and Truth.

I don't want my worship 'led'.  Been there and done that...on both sides of the microphone.  That's just me, though.

If you take this statement literally, I can see where it might irk you.  But when I read it, I thought that maybe he meant it like you have to actively worship, sort of like "actions speak louder than words".  I know so many people that go through the motions but nothing more.

IDK just a thought.

I've seen plenty of those that go through the motion. I never did let their problem become mine.
There is always something out there in everything we do concerning Gods word, learning, worship and praise; to distract us. Its only temptation trying to take it away from us. Gotta keep moving past the obstacles.
Dreams, prayer, study, worship and talents. Who is it that wants to take them from us?

Just people enjoying music and praising God. Fun and clean stuff.

Peace
Roy

I'm not sorry for the bad experiences.  Don't cry for me, Argentina.   ;D  I felt closer to God on the ride home than at any point during the concert.   ;D

As I said, GOD JUDGES HEARTS.  It's not for me to do that.  But it IS for me to discern spirits.  I couldn't begin to tell you what was in the hearts of those playing, or of those wiggling...err, worshipping.  I just know a bit of what's TRUE about worship after 52 years, and I'm not letting any other guitar player take THAT away from THIS guitar player.

My Low E string is rattling.  Sounds like a sitar.

Fantastic post Dave!

Peace,

Joe

Dave,

On this one i have to agree with you, nothing personal. I have been around music and musicians for much of my life. There is a Christian music program, i think Bill Gaither something that my wife likes to watch, carnal as the day i was born.

She thinks i need to listen to more of that stuff to really be holy in my thoughts. I used to love listening to music for hours on end, now though, that desire is completely absent from my daily toils. Nothing against music and musicians, just no longer even think about it; like quitting smoking after many years.

I think I have answered my own question. At least I feel comfortable with it.
Theres entertainment music and worship music. I'm not talking about stuff in the church buildings.
Nothing wrong with entertainment music that sings about God, light shows, people dancing, concerts and getting paid for it.
Worship music for the purpose of just making money might be wrong. People like worship music, and get a lot out of it. I can get into some good meditating on God while listening to worship music, but how can anyone put worship music out there w/o money? Its all about the heart. Musicians are not pastors trying to deceive people. We have a talent that people want to hear. God created music. There is always someone out there to turn something good into bad. Temptations are every where we turn. We can't hide from the world.
Music about God can have powerful messages in it. Its not my intention to play music for money, but if it comes, then I"m not going to turn it down. I'll just thank God for the blessing and keep on movin.
What people do in the church buildings are of no concern to me. Thats out of my control. We can talk about them until judgment day and accomplish nothing. I know I dont get anything from it except a guilt feeling.
No where did God say entertainment is a sin. Clean entertainment, I mean.
Worship isnt about where you are, or what or who is around you if its from the heart.
I'm not going to let the things going on in Babylon keep me down or harden my heart.
I'm speaking only for myself here.
Peace
Roy

My above comment is not directed toward anyone. Please forgive me if it seemed that way. Just coming to terms with things and nothing more.

Good discussion. I just ask myself...what's the point? For me, music is a story. It's should be like reading a good book. Liquid poetry. It's no different then typing, or writing a story or message. It could be a true story or in parable form. This can be accomplished with both music and lyrics, separately or together. Sadly, most music and lyrics today are created to satisfy the carnal.

Music moves me.  I find music invokes feelings, emotions, and love that I could never express or convey on my own.
