Hello all,
I have a friend that I'm really worried about. She got bit by a poisionous spider or something and now has a necrotic infection in her arm. Apparently it has made "a huge hole". She has had a high fever (102+) for several days and high blood pressure (which is really wacked because she usually has very very very low blood pressure). She finally went to the doctor and it's developed into a drug-resistant staph infection and appears to be spreading. They have her on antihistamines and a huge amount of an antibiotic cocktail. Anyway, I'm really worried about her and would sure appreciate some prayers. :(

Sounds like one of those brown recluse spiders....OUCH!!!

Sounds like they are doing all the right things. This bug sounds like methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureaus but should respond to the other antibiotics in due time. Prayers going up.

My friend had an infection from a brown recluse spider bite (this past June) and his doctor was treating him with antibiotics but it only continued to get worse until he went to the hospital on his own. They admitted him immediately, they ended up lancing the area and keeping him in the hospital for 4 or 5 days. I would strongly suggest your friend get either a 2nd opinion or go to the hospital to be checked out by a Specialist.
I do not want to fuel any fears but this is serious enough for her to be very pro active in seeking treatment.

Thanks Angie. You must know medicine.....my friend does indeed have a methicillin resistant S. aureaus infection (but I didn't want to get too much into details on the post). We both work in medical research so we're at least peripherially aware of these things and how they work and all that jazz. Thanks for the offer of info. I really appreciate it. May take you up on it if it gets worse.
Joe and Chuck, I suspect a brown recluse also. I actually got bit by one of those myself a few years ago and had a horrible infection, which was not antibiotically resistant thankfully but was painful and almost debilitating for several weeks. So, no worries, you're not fueling fears....at least none I don't already have. Thank you so much for your helpfullness and prayers. I actually know a friend of a friend who died from one of these last year.

I will be praying for your friend. I don't know anything about a brown recluse spider,but it doesn't sound like anything you'd want to go thru. Hopefully, you will tell us soon of a speedy safe recovery!

She lives in the midwest. So far the antibiotics (and prayers :D) seem to be working. I think she is feeling a bit better. Bout another week left. Thank you all so much....
