Title: 38 degrees in 30 minutes
Post by: longhorn on January 13, 2007, 01:50:32 AM
The temp here at the farm has just gone from 68 F to 39f in 30 min.  Not trying to be funny, but my chicken Lucy that normally sleeps on the front porch in her cocca-cola box has hi-tailed it to the barn with her gaurdian cat Salem.  Oh well,  Time to throw another log on the fire.

Longhorn,

Even when you do not try to be funny you are a riot.  I laughed at this too. I have just returned from the wonderful world of ebay blogging.  Seems I have found something else to do in the house and stay warm.

Hope you do not run out of any logs.  If you do, let me know, and you can have the huge ole beam from my eye LOL

  Sincerely,

It snowed right here in Southern California this morning.

They said it is going down to 20 degrees this weekend.

Thats a big dip buddy.

Weather up here is crazy.  We have NOT had any snow at all this winter!.  It has been raining and in the 40's & 50's.  They say an alberta clipper is coming our way.  That is cold.

I check out the Fairbanks arcticcam every day.  A couple days ago it was -40 and today it was only 0.

Crazy weather, chickens & cats sleeping together, the world is coming to an end (loosly translated from Ghostbusters!)

It is 1 AM and I'm going to bed (in a house, not the barn)

love,
gena

Our swimming pool temperature is 78 f. and the sun is very hot here in Africa! I feel for our cats all wrapped up in fur coats and our dogs with theirs!

We have to guard against the intensity of the sun. My hubby got sun burnt in a matter of half an hour and is now painfully recovering from 2nd degree burns with layers of skin pealing off! He asked me to gently brush off the pealing skin and it looked like he was snowing! ;D

Peace to you all

Arcturus :)

On a global scale, this has been (2006) one of the strangest year weather wise.Mabet there is something to this "Global warming" thing.  Here in N. E. Texas, todays forcast calls for flash flooding, changing to freezing rain late this evening.

Ok, Arcturus is hot.  Where are the Florida baskers?? Go ahead rub it in a little.  We can take it.

My son was stationed in Estonia a couple years ago and all prepared for snow and cold but it was very mild all winter. (Estonia is across the strait from Finland)
Maybe there is such a thing as global warming or is this just a pattern that comes around every 100 years or so???

OOOOOHHHHHHHH maybe its an end-time thing ??? ??? ;)

It is presently sunny & 75 degrees here in Tampa with a high of around 80 expected, I actually prefer it to be a little cooler in the winter but I can live with this.  8)  The weather report says a very low chance of rain but they are not aware that I did my rain dance this morning, to the untrained eye it probably appeared that I was merely washing my truck but every move has been carefully choreographed to ensure a downpour, I rarely fail in this endeavor.

As far as global warming goes it is obvious that weather patterns change over time, I remember vividly the "Scientific Community" predicting dire consequences in regard to the "New Ice Age" we were entering in the 70's. Weather history can be an interesting study, most people are unaware that early in the 2nd millenium (1000 to 1300 AD or so) England produced more and better wine than France, the weather in that period was conducive to bumper crops of grapes while France was a little too hot in it's grape growing regions. However after the 1300's it cooled quite a bit in Northern Europe and England's time as a major wine producer ended.

From wine to beer and spirits, with cooler weather hurting grape production (England and other countries) the focus went to crops that needed less of a growing season along with lower temperatures, barley, wheat, potatos, etc. could grow very well in this cooler environment making beer, whiskey and vodka more affordable than buying imported wine. This of course changed the consumption patterns in Northern Europe while southern Europe still prefers wine. This tradition continues in North America as well with beer and spirits comprising about 90% of the market and only about 10% for wine.

If stuff like this interests any of you try Googling weather history or weather impact on societies, etc. There is a wealth of information showing how extreme weather changes have been with humanity through the ages. The Middle East was at one time a fertile area, it is now a desert. North America was under hundreds of feet of ice, the Great Lakes were formed by glaciers, ever seen how big the Great Lakes are? That must have been some impressive chunks of ice. The media loves doom and gloom, rarely sharing historical perspectives or tempered opinions.

Gee, I actually could have added this post to the "Useless Information" thread.  ;)

Enjoy your day folks, no matter the weather!

Now that's what I call a sound mind!

1 Tim 1 : 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear, but He has given us a spirit of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

Pity about Lucy the chicken though :D  ;D

Hi Joe,

I'm just amazed that here in Florida, we haven't really seen winter.  It's January and the trees are already blooming like its spring.  I had to cut the grass the other day.  I bought a bunch of wood for the fireplace, and I haven't even used it yet.  I have lived in Florida since 1968, and I don't recall ever having such a warm winter.

We have our share of Rev 16:8 in AZ. The highest I have seen the temp is 121 F; yes, it's a dry heat ::), so is standing in front of a blow dryer on max heat or sticking your head in an oven.
Then we have our "monsoon" season where it is 100 F and 80% humility.
Last night at the race track, it was in the high 30's and 15 mph winds. All of the adults kept thier bikes on/in the trailer and had many, many layers of clothes on; HOWEVER, all of the kids (all young ladies ranging in age from 9-14) unloaded thier bikes and rode for about 3 hours non stop. I'm not real sure who had the most fun, we laughed and laughed at the girls battling it out with each other.

Yes, the Great Lakes are huge; anyone been to the GRAND Canyon? What a beautiful place to view Gods work.

Hi Brian,

It certainly has been warmer this winter for sure but we had some drops into the 40's just this week in fact. Yes, I had to have the lawn cut yesterday and usually I can go from November until May or so without cutting the whole lawn, a little weed eating here and there.

Were you out of town when this happened?

Snow In Orlando, Florida....

Associated Press   |  Posted November 22, 2006 02:48 PM

Walt Disney, Orlando, Florida

There was hardly a run on snow shovels, but a few flakes of the white stuff hit the ground in Orlando for the first time since 2003, meteorologists said.

The flakes mixed with rain fell Tuesday night in the central Florida hometown of Walt Disney World,
National Weather Service meteorologist John Pendergrast said.

I remember New Year's Eveback in 1989 I lived in Orlando at the time and I was with a friend who had been born and raised in Miami, it was about 11PM and snowflakes started falling, my friend just stood there with his hand extended out looking into the sky like he was posing for a sculpture, I had to snap him out of it by literally yelling at him. He finally came out of his trance and told me "This is the first time in my life I have ever seen it snow or felt a snowflake," I said, "well get over it and get in the car, you look like some acid freak tripping his brains out." I was not the most compassionate guy in those days.........

Take care,

Joe

It's 26 F here at my place this morning; either the pump is down or my water has turned to ice in the pipes.
They did not do much insulating in these older houses "back in the day" cuz it don't freeze very much in the Phoenix area. Thanks.

As of right now, we are getting freezing drizzle which is suppose to get a little heavier and continue through the night.  No power lines down yet, but the trees and lines are starting to get a pretty good accumalation of ice.   Guess we Texas can't complain too much, it has been a really mild winter.

hello everyone,
I'm back (praise God) after a bout with by lower back problem.  I have enjoyed this thread as I sit here in the comfort and warmth of my living room looking out the front windows at the beautiful glass neighborhood.  All of the pine trees, yards and streets are covered in ice; it is so beautiful.  (yes, West Tx has some pine trees and The Lord blessed me with those b/c I love green trees.)

Apparently, 2006 was the warmest weather on the books in Texas history.  We're starting out with a bang this new year tho!
(I wonder if the 'HAARP' station in Alaska is altering the weather patterns again?  They have the technology to mess with the electrical currents to alter the weather conditions.  I believe that this is where El Ninia and La Ninio came from a while back.)

Patrick, yes we just got backa souple of months ago from visiting the Grand Canyon; we got lots of pix too.  It is very MAJESTIC to see and especially when your 8 yr old little boy wants to go out to the very, very, very edge of the mile+ drop off so he can experience the canyon 'close up' (meanwhile...mom is holding her breath and his arm as well.)

Yes, I used to live about 15 miles from Lake Erie/(Cleveland, Ohio area)...it too is massive and beautiful (looks like an ocean.) The drastic extremes of weather that I have been is is when I lived in Minnesota where it was -39 degrees (your nostrils freeze together and you must pull them apart; and then in Saudi Arabia where it was 146 degree heat (feels like sitting in your pick up truck on a 100 degree day and then putting your heater on full balst...ughhhh;   it's a great way to loose weight tho ;D)

Well, gotta get up and look out the front door before it gets too dark for me to see this beautiful ice land.  (Stay warm Longhorn ;)  and for those of you in FLORIDA...WELL...you should repent! ;D ;D

Got the fireplace thing going, plenty of firewood and hot chocolate.  God is good.  Hope all out in west Tx make it through without much ice damage.  All the animals have been fed, a couple of cats I havent seen before have made their way into the barn, and are enjoying the companionship of Doodle, Petmont and Salem.

Hey Longhorn,
I can relate.  I have three dogs in the house and they think they are in heaven.  (Ha, 'Sadie' our bassett Hound is laying down on a rug and (iwas as snug as a bug in a rug ;D, that is, until I blew my nose and my nose ???WHISLED???  ???QUITE LOUDLY, and she jumped up startled wondering what that sound was ??? ;D) (I know, you could have probably done w/o that info.)

I thought about getting the hot chocolate going too; I just had hot buttered popcorn, I think I'll join ya...
And about having no ice damage; I'll drink to that :D.  I like days like this too cuz DH gets to stay home from work and we get to have fun with him :D

Here in Michigan, getting ice & sleet.  Figures.  We have tomorrow off anyway for MLK day.  Teachers hate that cuz we love getting ice days off WHEN we have the kiddies, not when its off anyway!!

We get plenty of snow/fog/ice days off up here. Last year got 10 days of it but didn't have to make any up.

Just spoke w/ my son in Florida (or Flordia as my 4th graders spell it) and they just got back from Clearwater Beach.  Ugh.  I was sitting on the couch with my blanky watching TV. Ugh again.

I keep trying to pray that I will accept that this is where God put me and to accept, enjoy and shut up about it.  Don't know why I want to run off to Flordia :P

Yeah I like this thread becuase we can keep up with eachother and share details that we normally would not get in another thread.

Well I will see you fine people later today.  Have a great night's sleep.

I pray that all of you who are experiencing severe weather are safe and warm this morning, those of us in Florida have had to deal with the aftermath of a few hurricanes in times past and having no power or even water for a few days can be a real trial. At least we did not have to deal with freezing temperatures, my heart goes out to you guys.

His Peace and Comfort to you,

20 degrees here this morning; no ice or anything like that. 75 miles North of me it was 15 below zero (Flagstaff area).

I never thought I would leave TX; now I don't think I will ever go back, unless God drags me back. Since my dad died, most of my family has moved away from the Big Spring area. My older brother is still in Coahoma, everyone else has either moved to Austin or left the state and moved to New Mexico.

Well, thought i'd let u know what it's like here in London, although in a few hours time I will be in Northern Ireland for my aunts funeral.
U.K has actually had quite mild weather, although the past week gale force winds and rain have been hitting the North. I love seeing your posts about ranches and farms and stuff sounds like "movie" stuff i used to watch as a kid. lol

Have a blessed day

Patrick,
I thought I had heard you correctly in saying that you were from West Tx.; come to find out, you are in Arizona?  I was almost going to contact you to have a get together here in Lub. with Anne and myself, but, I think it would be way too far to drive here from Az.  now. :(Wow, Az. with -15 degrees??? :o)

Yes,  Longhorn, very little outage damage here, thanks Lord.  It turned out very sunny today (only 19 degrees outside tho.)   8)burrrrrrr!  This sun can fool you b/c it is gonna get 13 degrees tonight and not much warmer for the rest of the week than it is now.

At least DH is home, he only had to put in  hrs today ;D; he just took Daniel to Anne's for piano lessons b/c I still am too weak in my back to drive or bend.  Another night on the couch last night; I miss my bed :( ;)  Maybe tonight tho.

Sandie,I am sorry to hear about the passing of your Aunt (be careful driving into Ireland in those gale force winds and rain.)  We will be praying for you and your strength during this very difficult time.  I'm sure that your Aunt loved you very much for being such a good neice to her and for loving her as you did.  I thought it ironic (God thing) that you quoted the Psalm 23 b/c I spoke that over my Grandma b/f  :)she passed and I know it was a comfort to her.  BTW, I don't think that one can get any more TEXAN than our precious LONGHORN ;D, (yeee haaa)  Anne and I live in a city of 215, 000 people ;) but, there are tons of farms and ranches on the outskirts of town :D

Gena, Bummer to not get more snow days off, I remember those days as a kid up there in Ohio :D Seems that is typical Northern weather (sleet and ice), I donb't like getting out on the streets down here in inclimate weather since alot of people in this area have no experience in driving in weather like this; shoot, they hardly use salt on the roads, they use more dirt :o It's not too funny, but, you see so many wrecks on the news on icy days around here, it's unbelievable ;)  ....Clearwater Beach???  What is a beach ???, as all we have around here is lots of dust and sand ;D

Well, gotta go and get some more hot chocolate tos tay warm; but I'm out of my fav. choc chip cookies; (gotta call DH at Anne's-he's gotta go to the store anyway :P :P ::) ::) ;D ;D

Patrick,

That's pretty interesting.  I do not know that any of our relatives lived in Colorado City, but I will check into this.  That would be wild if we were related somewhere down the road.

  Sincerely,

  Anne C. McGuire

Wow Patrick, why did ya have to move?  We could be fellowshipping in person right about now.  ;)  Hey, that is pretty neat that your relatives have (one) of the same last names that Anne has; mu sentiments exactly...you could be related :D

Susan,

I cannot believe you are teasing me about those cookies.  Well guess what Susan,  ;D ;D ;D oh man this is going to be evil and I do not apologize for it now.   ;D ;D   ;D  You'll be needing that treadmill after eating those cookies.  Now you could have eaten them and gotten only half of those calories had you shared with some poor unforunate soul such as myself.  I hope you enjoyed your cookies.  I'll get some eventually.  I am going to make some homeade.  I want cookies.

  Sincerely,

  Anne C. McGuire

I was working for Schlumberger and they gave me 3 options. Move to Michigan, move to Kellyville, OK, or find another job cuz the specialty work that I was doing came to an end in the area.
So, I walked out and was moving 3 days later to get as far away from the oil field as I could.
