Title: Flight on the Sabbath
Post by: HoneyLamb56 on April 19, 2017, 09:38:47 AM

Quoting from Ray:

A couple of months ago I also gave a Bible Study on "Keeping Sabbath."  It explains HOW we are to keep the sabbath. We are to keep it as Jesus kept it. Jesus mentioned time and time again how that He did not come to do His Own WORKS, but the WORKS of His Father.

Don't you understand that keeping the sabbath in spirit is to STOP DOING YOU WORKS, and letting the Spirit of God work IN YOU. That is how one "enters into His REST" (Heb. 4).

In Matthew 24:20 "and pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath".

If the Sabbath is not one specific day and has a spiritual meaning of stopping our works; then why would Jesus refer to your flight not being on the Sabbath?  Is one fleeing something physical or spiritual?

Hi George,
That's a good point. As Ray said the Jews were still keeping Sabbath until the temple was destroyed in 70 A.D.
I also understand that the 12 apostles, Peter, James, John etc. remained in Jerusalem keeping the holy days and that may be why they had a controversy with Saul/Paul. Our Lord Jesus was "sent" to the children of Abraham etc. and not to the gentiles until after Paul was prepared by Jesus to preach the gospel of grace.

Interesting question, thanks for sharing. Indiana Bob
