Title: Hello everyone
Post by: thewatchman on December 19, 2012, 12:35:39 AM
New poster, but longtime watcher. I've enjoyed many of the site's studies. I have a question. Forgive me if it has been dealt with in another area. Now that Ray has passed on, what is the future direction of the site? Will there be a passing of the mantle?
I have physical disablilities and may have experienced a stroke. Very frustrating. I am going for scans in the new year. But my faith is stronger than ever. I am prepared to drink of the same cup of suffering. Thanks

It's nice to meet you.  Thankful to the Father that your 'insides' aren't dependant on your 'outsides'.  If it was a stroke, I hope you can get good recovery.

Hello watchman,
I will pray to God for a speedy and thorough recovery for you. My grandmother suffered massive and minor strokes for the last 15 to 20 years of her life. She was unable to walk after the third large stroke but she was still very sharp in her brain. Very few if any of her mental facilities were bothered at all. She ended up living just two years shy of a century and remembered all of us until about a month before she passed. So see there is nothing to fear about a stroke all it can do is slow you down physically, just a little bit. My grandmother was a very kind and loving woman, I do miss her from time to time, but I know she is safe now from this worlds evil that is yet to come. I thank God for you joining us and being able to come here and be blessed by the brothers and sisters , and most of all God. Oh … by the way nice to meet you, sorry to be so rude. Have a pleasant, God filled journey here.

welcome to the forum.  it's good that you have been a watcher for a while and decided to join in.  there is much to read and digest on the website and in the forum.  so many old topics to study.  but, as dennis said, there just won't be any new articles.  i confess that still is hard to accept.  i do miss our ray so much.

again, welcome thewatchman.  now you can become the joininman.   8)

Thanks all. Good example of your grandmother. I have diabetes as well and had 2 major leg injuries. I woke up one morning and my left leg wasn't working properly and my left arm and hand is operating at about 40-50%. Lots of spills and dropped stuff. Today I was drinking from a 2 litre diet coke and my left arm spasmed and it shot coke all over my face and front. It feels a little like I'm drunk. Only slight slurring. I am getting assessed by the stroke foundation tomorrow and getting CT scans in the new year. I'm not prone to self-pity and haven't yet. My typing does get mixed yp which is a little frustrating.  I still am sharp. Sharp as a drunk....haha

Ray had what his doctor called "runaway diabetes." He could not get his sugar under 300.

Then he found out he had cancer and six months to live. He went on a stick diet and out lived the doctors by four years.

But a side effect was in about one year on the diet he cured his diabetes.

If Ray were alive now and saw that you are drinking diet sodas he would most likely scream at you. Unless you have a death wish, then that's another issue.

As humans, when we are in pain, be it physical of mental, we want it to stop! So we many times turn to food and/or sex.

For those few minutes when we are eating something pleasurable we are concentrating on the ice-cream (or whatever) and forget our troubles.

Afterwards we feel bad for doing something stupid and it starts again.

Food, sex, and vanity are the death of us all (and I'm not claiming immunity).

Mat 26:41  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

2Ti 3:4  ...lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Type 2 Diabetes can in most instances be controlled with diet alone.

Here is a good book
http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Bernsteins-Diabetes-Solution-Achieving/dp/0316182699/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1356012433&sr=1-1&keywords=diabetes+bernstein

I do computer work for a couple of Doctors who follow these guidelines.  One is a general practitioner and the other a heart doctor.  They both tell me if a person can follow the diet guidelines in this book their success rate on no medication diabetes control is over 80% and the other 20% is not following the books guidelines.  The heart doctor also recommends the Atkins diet.

I know if I want to loose weight and get my blood work into a normal healthy range the low carb Atkins diet works for me.

I made that "death wish" comment because there is a young man from my son's childhood and visits my home once and a while.

He has serious heart problems and advanced diabetes and has several operations. He barely gets around.

I've shown him material that proves he can heal himself by using some self-control.

But nothing changes, he doesn't seem to care. The only thing I can think of is he has a death wish.

Also, I had a close childhood friend. We kept in touch and I would visit him every time I was in the Detroit area.

On one visit I noticed he was not walking normally and asked him about it and he pulled up his pants leg and there was a steel rod instead of his leg. Not long after that he lost his other leg.

A few years later he came home from dialysis, sat in his chair, said "I feel cold" and died. I was in Detroit that day and intended to visit him that evening.

His name was Bob and Bob could not stay away from Pepsi-Cola. He knew it was killing him but he would not stop.

Pepsi has much more sugar than Coke but both are poison IMO.

It's one thing to do these things in ignorance but another when you know the consequences. I don't understand.

Dennis, because carbohydrates are just as addictive as heroin.  The hardest part of going low carb diet is the withdrawals.  Fortunately it last less than a week and after that it is easier to stay away.  But in our society it is very hard to stay on a low carb diet, and once you cheat a little the carbs hook you again.

I didn't know that Craig. Thank you.

Rays health problems have educated me. We are still learning from him.

Good morning Watchman,
I'm old and have a steel knee. It works quite well but now my hip is always sore.
So I exercise at the Gym and it helps.
Welcome to the best forum there is for plain speaking and truth as we understand it.
I appreciate the discussion about sugar addiction.
My problem is watching TV and immediately getting the "munchies".
I try to munch on carrots and other veggies, but often degrade to crackers or chips.
Point is that I understand about addictions to some extent. As I'm sitting there watching the exciting detective show I get a craving for something to chew. (smile)

Anyway Watchman, try to keep a positive approach to life's difficulties, it all leads to life of the age to come when there will be no more tears.
Kindly, your new friend, Indiana Bob  ;D
