Title: Study Finds Swearing Makes Pain More Tolerable
Post by: NoviceBeliever on July 13, 2009, 06:17:49 PM
So I was logging onto the internet this morning and this article popped up and I thought oh great, now science is giving us permission to curse, like anyone needed any help with that one.  I am firmly of the belief of darns, shoots, etc. and will definitely utter "lovely" from time to time, but overall, not a big swearer.  So I thought, why not come up with a list of words that instead of being offensive, are actually inspiring or funny.  You are more than welcome to join in! I'll let you know mine shortly. NB

Music man and friends,

Most of those examples are disagreeable because they display an immature or childish attitude.
Some one calls you a name and you respond with "so are you" or "you're another one".
They are intended to irritate the other person or to try to GET EVEN without bloodshed.
In secular society, A REAL MAN would just punch the other guy in the nose and end the confrontation.
Name calling is a poor substitute for seeking a mature, loving solution to our differences.
It is a sign of a weak mind trying to express itself forcefully.

I suggest that we think of better ways to communicate with friend or foe and use the brains God gave us all.
Let's make peace, not war.  Let's build up and not tear down.

Regards, Bob

Seeking to use other words besides 'swear' words is a false pretense. We should repent of those wicked thoughts from the beginning, not try to express them in other ways. IndianaBob gave sound counsel...we would be wise to listen.

Eph 4:29  Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Matt 12:34  ...out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Luke 6:45  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Thanks,

Marques

I know this thread was probably meant to be humorous but I thought we should look at it another way also.

If I say crap instead of ****, or shoot or darn etc.  What is it we really mean?  What are we thinking when we substitute another word.  Is not thinking of adultery or lusting after another the same as committing the act?

If we get angry and say "OH DARN!", yes we cleaned up the language but have we cleaned up our thoughts and actions?  I think in God's eyes we are as guilty as if we said the "dirty" word, because He IS concerned about our thoughts and actions.

Just points to ponder.
