Title: Grandpa
Post by: mharrell08 on August 12, 2010, 11:24:48 AM
A woman in a supermarket is following a grandfather and his badly behaved 3 year-old grandson.

It's obvious to her that he has his hands full with the child
screaming for candy in the candy aisle, cookies in the cookie aisle; and for fruit, cereal and soda in the other aisles.

Meanwhile, Granddad is working his way around, saying in a controlled voice, "Easy, William, we won't be long . . . easy, boy."

Another outburst, and she hears the granddad calmly say, "It's
okay, William, just a couple more minutes and we'll be out of here. Hang in there, boy."

At the checkout, the little terror is throwing items out of the cart, and Granddad says again in a controlled voice, "William,
William, relax buddy, don't get upset. We'll be home in five
minutes; stay cool, William."

Very impressed, the woman goes outside where the grandfather is loading his groceries and the boy into the car.

She said to the elderly gentleman, "It's none of my business, but
you were amazing in there. I don't know how you did it. That whole time, you kept your composure, and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying things would be okay William is very lucky to have you as his grandpa."

"Thanks," said the grandfather, "but I'm William . .. . the little
b*****d's name is Steve."

Older folks,

I enjoyed the story and have seen it many times in the store.

On a more serious note though, it is apparent that the little fellow
had NO training at home. Public stores and restaurants are no place
to train children. It is so easy for parents to "put up with" bad behavior
at home and just turn off their ears until the child is worn out.

Most parents could use a good puppy training manual to encourage
acceptable behavior while maintaining their own self respect the
way that Grandpa William did. Really, puppy training is quite similar.

Kindly, Bob

Bob, have you ever seen THE NANNY on tv. She's wonderful. A heavy set woman from England who comes into homes and shows the parents how to re-train their children. It's the best show in a long time that WORKS. Some of the kids swear, fight, spit and hit. By time she leaves it is like a new household. The parents by then have taken back the reigns.
Even if you don't have cable there are videos of the show you can rent. She doesn't raise her voice or spank the children. Amazing!
