Determined to end his life, he packed his revolver, a length of rope and some prescription pain killers.
Parking on the bridge, he stepped up to the rail, tied the rope to the rail bar before securing it around his neck.
Swinging over the rail, he stood against the wind and God. He took out the pain killers and swallowed the entire twenty pills.
Then before they could take effect, he pulled the gun from his belt and in the same motion, stepped off the rail whilst looking down to the slate grey water 48 stories beneath where he had been standing on the bridge. Aiming the gun to his head, he pulled the trigger.
He missed. The bullent went behind his head, severed the rope, and he barrelled down into the water where the fast entry to the cold unforgiving river, washed through his body and cleaned out the 20 pills he'd swallowed.
He survived the ordeal he had carefully designed not to fail when a boatsman dragged him out of the water, gave him a hot cup of coffee and told him to be more careful next time! :)
