It was still summer on 9/11/01; the autumnal equinox was still 10 days away.

I thought you were a stickler for detail?

Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, p. 84: autumn, n (1) "...in the northern hemisphere usually

the months of September, October, and November"

I believe "9/11" stands for SEPTEMBER Eleventh [AUTUMN] according to Webster.
