You need good credit and a relationship with a bank. Depending on how much money you run through your account, the bank will charge you 2% to 5% of the gross.

Sandy  all credit card monies transactions are run through a bank.  You will need a business account.  Go to your bank and get the information on how to set one up.  Than  you can apply for merchant service account at your bank. A representative will come and talk to you about your business and your income.  Depending on your gross amount you make in your company will determine your fee rate.  There are additional charges too.  The machine are either bought  or leased out and pretty expensive  $3,000.00  maybe more now.  Talking to customer service, at your bank, about the kind of business you want to start might be a  positive and help you plan well.  Good luck  peggy

Join Sams Club as a business member, they have a reasonable CC clearing house you can use.

Thank you, everyone.

I do have good credit - actually, in the excellent category. I'm in the top 95% in the country. However, $3,000 is a bit more than I've got left these days. I really don't know what I'm going to do.

New Friend Sandy,

It seems that these new ventures involve unexpected preparations.

Are you at liberty to say what kind of business you want to start and what your skills are?
We may have some other ideas based on personal experience, that would be helpful.
