A compunction speared
Is the thing most feared
Receiving the kiss of shame
But conscience is cleared
When his heart is seared
By this divinest flame
As his kingdom falls
The Messenger calls
Declaring the hour of death
And the crumbling walls
Signal to thralls
The sorrows of their last breath
Hearken the crier
Come forth from deep mire
Reborn, at last made whole
With ardent desire
He's spitting forth fire
At him for whom bells toll
Fording death's firth
And finding new worth
He sings his triumphant refrain
Feeling unbridled mirth
Of freedom's new birth
As he enters his King's domain
