I happened to see the movie yesterday. How can a person be so right and so wrong at the same time? Let me rephrase that. How can one who is clueless look so convincing? Well, just ask the blind to explain the commonly held beliefs of their religious teachings. Bill Maur sounds like a genius next to those blind christians. Questions posed by atheists and egnostics that honest christians cannot answer:
1. Why all of the evil in this world?
2. Why all of the death in the OT?
3. Why all of the sins of the prophets in the bible?
4. Why a loving God sends people to hell?
5. Why can almost nobody follow the laws of God?
6. How can modern science coexist with the bible?
Things Bill was right about:
1. Rational people can have extremelly irrational beliefs.
2. Most religious people don't think through their beliefs.
3. Most religious people put their faith in things with little or no evidence.
4. The belief that there is some magician in the sky who grants our wishes is silly.
5. Believing that we can change the mind of this god is silly.
6. People are gay through no fault of their own.
7. His statements about Islam being a violent religion.
8. Everything he said about scientology.
9. Nobody knows for sure what happens after death.
10. When answering a christian, who stated "what if you're wrong, Bill retorted, "what if you're wrong" (keeping in mind that orthodox christianity is about as stupid as all other religions that believe in hell).
Things Bill is wrong about:
1. There is no evidence for the belief that Christ is Lord.
2. Scientists are in general agreement about evolution.
3. The oppinions of scientists about God are more credible than anybody elses (was almost suggested in movie).
4. The gospels have to be identical to be credible.
5. All of the stupid belief systems work against the credibility of the scriptures.
6. The story of Christ is a retell of old mythological stories of gods.
7. He doesn't distinguish micro and macro evolution.
8. He doesn't distinguish young Earth creationists from those who believe that God created all.
9. He failed to mention that the trinity is not taught in the scriptures.
