Problem in my Rotherham's Bible
« on: June 28, 2009, 01:45:22 AM »

I was looking in my Rotherham's Bible to see wat it said in Matthew Chapter 18 verse 11. That, verse is not in my Rotherham's.
In my KJV Matt. Ch. 18 verse 11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

I just wondered if anyone has seen this in there Rotherham's.

hi marlene,
from what i can gather after looking at my rotherham bible in matthew 18:11, at the end of verse 10 it shows [11]a. the notation at the bottom of that page under a. says omitted by WH. in reading the preface at the beginning of the new testament, the 2nd paragraph explains that the greek text translated is o longer that of dr. s.p. tregelles..., but the more recent text of drs. westcott and hort...  so, i believe the notation showing vs. 11 was omitted by WH, is indeed the abbreviation for westcott & hort.  in looking through all the other translations which i have, only the kjv shows matt. 18:11 without it being in italics or in brackets, and a couple of the translations leave it out completely like rotherhams does, with notations that the early manuscripts did not include that verse.

Marlene:
My NASB makes note that earlier versions did not contain Matt 18:11 as well. NB

It's missing in the Concordant Literal Version too.

It's missing in the Concordant Literal Version too.

But they both have Luke 19:10 which is the exact same phrase.

Luke 19:10  For the Son of Man came, to seek and to save what was lost. [REB]

Luke 19:10  For the Son of Mankind came to seek and to save the lost. [CLV]

Along with the Good Shepherd parable [Matt 18, Luke 15, etc.]  and other scriptural witnesses that Christ will save those who are lost.

Thanks,
