                                     Ease the pounding of my heart
                                        by the quieting of my mind.
                                    Steady my hurried pace with a vision
                                          of the eternal reach of time.
                                    Give me, amid the confusion of the day,
                                       the calmness of the everlasting hills.
                                       Break the tensions of my nerves and
                                      muscles with the soothing music of the
                                     singing streams that live in my memory.
                                             Help me to know the magical,
                                               restoring power of sleep.
                                    Teach me the art of taking minute vacations,
                                      of slowing down to look at a flower, to chat
                                         with a friend, to pat a dog, to read a few
                                                     lines from a good book.
                                         Slow me down, Lord, and inspire me to
                                          send my roots deep into the soil of life's
                                                      enduring values that I may grow

Amen! Inspiring.

When I was still attending church they would have this one Evangelist come every year. I have to say, I did look forward to hearing him speak. He is known as the Chaplin of Bourbon Street, the one in New Orleans. He was motivational to say the least.

One thing I'll never forget that he mentioned was this. He said he had to some times ask the Lord to "turn me loose" just so he could rest. He'd be so caught up in the word or praying that he was just going too fast and needed to slow down to get some rest. Somehow I connected the poem you shared and him. Guess it was the needing to slow down part.
