Luke 9-Elijah Moses-Transfiguration

<< < (2/5) > >>

Pini56:
Hi all,

It is interesting who appeared with Jesus in the vision. Moses who was the law giver, and Elijah who was the foremost Prophet.
In scripture Jesus says I have come to fulfill the Law and the Prophets.

It would make an interesting study don't you think.

Peace Geoff.

Hello all long time, blessings to all.

this might be a little off topic, but i also see the two crucified with Jesus , one representing law the other grace.

be that as it may, from gen to rev. we see the unveiling of Jesus Christ.

Psa 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book [it is] written of me,
Hbr 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Luk 24:44 And he said unto them, These [are] the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and [in] the prophets, and [in] the psalms, concerning me.

and so:

Jhn 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

Good point Geoff...and Peter confirms this as well when testifying of Jesus' transfiguration:

2 Pet 1:16-21  For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

And the images of Moses & Elijah talked with Christ fulfilling His prophecy:

Luke 9:28-31  It came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease [Gk. 'exodus' - departure; exit] which he should accomplish at Jerusalem

And as you noted from Jesus' own words, He came to fulfill the Law & the Prophets which testify of Him, including His departure.

I like that too, Geoff.  And the 'end' of the account is telling as well.

Luk 9:35 And a voice came out of the cloud saying, "This is My Son, The Chosen; Him be hearing."
Luk 9:36 And at the coming of the voice, Jesus was found alone. And they hush, and to no one in those days do they report anything of what they have seen."

The Transfiguration account is my favorite bible story.  There's so much Spiritual meat in that extraordinary account when we have a basis in Truth.  Thanks for reminding me.

Pini56:
Hi all,

Continuing. These are the words of the Prophet:

1 Who has believed our message? To whom will the Lord reveal his saving power? 2 My servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, sprouting from a root in dry and sterile ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. 3 He was despised and rejected–a man of sorrows, acquainted with bitterest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way when he went by. He was despised, and we did not care.
4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows* that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God for his own sins! 5 But he was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed! 6 All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the guilt and sins of us all.
7 He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. 8 From prison and trial they led him away to his death. But who among the people realized that he was dying for their sins–that he was suffering their punishment? 9 He had done no wrong, and he never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave.
10 But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and fill him with grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have a multitude of children, many heirs. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s plan will prosper in his hands. 11 When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of what he has experienced, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. 12 I will give him the honors of one who is mighty and great, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among those who were sinners. He bore the sins of many and interceded for sinners. Isaiah 53. NLT.

Jesus is the fulfilment of this Prophesy. This is how we know that jesus is who he says he is. The Son of God, the Saviour of all Sinners, of which we all are. The Prophet bears witness long before Jesus came to Earth.

Peace, Geoff.
