chastizing or under discipline

Hello Everyone,

This is another very interesting topic, one we all might profit from as we all to some degree struggle with the things written here so far, as I was reading through the posts I was reminded of Solomon's prayer.

Check it out;

1 Kings 3

 5In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

 6And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

 7And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.

 8And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

 9Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

 10And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing.

 11And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

 12Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

 13And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.

 14And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

15And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

Does this strike you as the kind of mindset that all who aspire to please God should have?

Do you think if we exercise the discipline of constantly seeking and praying for Godly discernment there will be less cause for Godly chastising?

Peace,

Joe

Learning things the hard way, that's seems to be the what it takes for us to really get it. We have to actually live these difficult experiences that happen in our lives for it to imprint upon our mind, so we will never forget it. So we all have our share of good and bad experiences.

Ecc 1:13 I applied my heart to inquiring and exploring by wisdom concerning all that is done under the heavens:it is an experience of evil Elohim has given to the sons of humanity to humble them by it.

It occurs to me that this "experience of evil" as hard as it is to endure at the time, is actually of great value for us to learn from. So just as all mankind must suffer in this life, Christ also suffered. Suffering is a necessary part of this process.

They (Israelites) were forgiven for a whole year, just by the sprinkling of a goat’s blood, in the Holy place on the Day of Pentecost. But Christ wanted to prove to the human race that He was every bit as good of a man, as any other man was.  He doesn’t sit in His ivory tower telling us how great He is. He did it as a man. God became a man and died, because He loves His creation and He wanted us to know He loves us.

This is awesome stuff.  It’s like a fairytale from Greek mythology, but it’s not, it the Bible.

So He puts us through hell to get us in His family.  It’s necessary to go through this pain and suffering and evil, to become holy, righteous, and good, you have to go through it.

I got as email just yesterday, a man said anybody that couldn’t do what God wants to do for humanity, instantly, is not God. Some things, by there very nature, require time and circumstances. The gift of the Holy Spirit is patience, well I want it and I want it now, no. Patience is waiting for something under duress and the pain of not having it, that’s patience. How can you develop that without time and duress. The more you think about it, just try to think of one virtue, love, kindness, faith, any virtue that you try to think of, that is not in some way, shape or form the result of overcoming some form of evil. To be good you must overcome evil.  Because your tendency is to be evil.

Problem for us is that Jesus suffered for doing good only.  My suffering at times seems to be more for the evils that I have done than the good.  I would rather suffer for doing of the good as that would be easier to bear.

Hi Arion,

I couldn't agree with you more!

And even more importantly neither could Peter under the inspiration of His Spirit.  ;)

1Pe 3:16  Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

1Pe 3:17  For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

Peace,

Joe

It is more painful to suffer for well doing than for evil doing. At least for evil doing, you know you're guilty....well, that's an assumption! You are supposed to know and if you don't well that's tough.

For well doing, as Jesus suffered, died and was buried, that's real tough ~ and that's the way to go! :)
