hope his makes you smile....

A man in Hot Springs, Arkansas decided to write a book
About churches around the country. He started by flying
To San Francisco and started working east from there. Going
To very large churches, he began taking photographs and
Making notes. He spotted a golden telephone on the
Vestibule walls and was intrigued with a sign, which read "Calls:
$10,000 a minute." Seeking out the pastor he asked about the
Phone and the sign. The pastor answered that this golden
Phone is, in fact, a direct line to heaven and if he pays
The price he can talk directly to GOD,

The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way.
As he continued to visit churches in Seattle , Salt Lake ,
St. Louis, Chicago , Milwaukee , Texas, and many cities and towns all
Around the United States , he found more phones, with the
Same sign, and the same answer from each pastor.

Finally, he arrived in Oklahoma, upon entering a
Church in the beautiful state of OklahomaBehold- he saw the usual golden telephone. But THIS time, the sign read,
"Calls: 35 cents".

Fascinated, he asked to talk to the pastor,
"Pastor, I have been in cities all across the country and in
Each church I have found a golden telephone and have
Been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to GOD,
But in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute.
Your sign reads only 35 cents a call. Why?"

As an Okie, I love this part .......

The pastor, smiling broadly, replied,
"Son, you're in Oklahoma now - you're in God's Country. It's a local call." (LOL)

American by Birth - Okie by the Grace of God.

And why do folks in Oklahoma go barefooted?
When you're in Oklahoma, you're on Holy ground!!

hey, lauriellen -

I smiled "again"   :)  as I read your humorous article.  I believe in an earlier thread, Indianabob beat you to the punch on this subject (and of course Indiana was God's country) and then JFK followed up and said that Kentucky was in fact God's country.  :'(     But we'll never admit to that since we are both Okies... right!   >:(   I would never even dare to say that Ohio falls in this group!  But... I must admit that there are plenty of states that I have visited and are presently high on my list of "God's country" states.  Oregon (Grant's Pass, Rogue River region), Northern California (Trinity River area), Maine (mountains and forests), New Hampshire (White Mtns.), NC/TN (Smoky mtn. region), Colorado (Maroon Bells, Aspen area), West Virginia... "wild & wonderful"... "all most heaven" (just about the whole state... Blackwater Falls, Pipestem, Hawks Nest, Seneca Rocks, etc.

But of course everyone has their own personal favorites... and especially... I'm sure... those forum members who live outside of the U.S!
