"There's So Much In There"

Dennis Vogel:
I was simply reinforcing what Ray says about paying attention to all the words.

Why are you talking about the antichrist in this topic? It's not germane.

Kat:

Interesting video, yes I can agree that David was a much more formidable foe with his sling than most realize, but I do not believe that Goliath was a feeble giant with very poor eyesight. It looks like Ted did not heed his own advise to pay attention to the words.

1Sa 17:33  Saul told David, "You can't go against this Philistine and fight him. You are only a young man, but he has been a warrior since his youth."

That phrase indicates to me that there was nothing feeble about this giant. Ted said that the gigantism was caused by a tumor on the pituitary gland, which he may have been indicating caused him to be more like a freak of nature that had other abnormalities, including poor eyesight. Yet the Bible speaks quite a few times of giants.

Deu 2:20  It also was known to be a land of giants. Giants lived there in past times. And the Ammonites call them Zamzumim,

Num 13:33  And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, of the giants. And we were in our own sight like grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Joshua 12:4  The other king was Og king of Bashan and his territory, who was of the remnant of the giants, who dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei,

Deu 3:11  For only Og king of Bashan remained of the rest of the giants. Behold! His bedstead was a bedstead of iron. Is it not in Rabbath of the sons of Ammon? Nine cubits (cubit anywhere from 17 inches (43.2 centimeters) to 21 inches, so conservatively 13 1/2 feet) was its length, and four cubits (6 feet) its width, according to the cubit of a man.

There seems to have once been an actual race of giants that lived on earth, there is even some archeological evidence of it. But what I'm getting at is that Goliath was also a very formidable foe that David went up against, which makes the victory that much more impressive.

In this story/parable it seems like David was taking on a formidable enemy of Israel (God's chosen people), a great giant warrior, just as the elect take on formidable giants temptation in the world... only God's Spirit can give us the strength that will delivery us, just as He did for David.

1Sa 17:37  And David said, Jehovah who has delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and may Jehovah be with you.

There is still a "race" of giants walking the earth.  They call themselves the NBA.

santgem:
It has to do with Goliath.................

Nowadays they were the goliath.....................They are chasing to kill small David. :)

Abednego:
Good story, but it seems to me he's missing the mark.  It sounds to me like he is saying that David was trusting in his ability with the sling and I don't believe that.

Two of the scriptures in that story:

And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God? (1 Samuel 17:26 KJV) (bold mine)

and

The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.” (1 Samuel 17:37 NIV)

Sounds to me like David had the same frame of mind as Caleb....

And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. (Numbers 13:30 KJV)

David didn't need a sling.  He could have gone down with his bare hands and God would have given him the victory.  Also:

And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. (1 Samuel 17:35 KJV) (bold mine)

He had hands on there, he wasn't using a sling.
