Why won’t they just believe the scriptures ?

[rick]

Did we as a people really have to wait until 1492 for Christopher Columbus to inform us that the earth is round ?

Isa 40:22  It is he that comprehends the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants in it are as grasshoppers; he that set up the heaven as a chamber, and stretched it out as a tent to dwell in:

Isa 40:22  It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Why won't they just believe the scriptures ? Well, actually we know why, lol

No one is so ignorant as the man who will not learn.
Friend Rick,

Here is some data to demonstrate that normal scientist knew the earth was spherical before the time of Jesus. Of course the Roman Church did not agree and they had the power...

In Egypt, a Greek scholar and philosopher, Eratosthenes (276 BC – 195 BC), measured the circle of the earth. Here is a web site that explains and shows diagrams of his research and explains how he determined the circumference quite close to the actual measurement.

See the paragraph: Hellenistic World.

Have fun, Indiana Bob

Columbus already knew the earth was spherical.  That's why he headed west trying to reach Asia.  What he didn't know was how big Asia was.  Or rather, how small.

Besides, there is also 'round' or 'circular' like a pizza.  If there is a way for the human mind to misunderstand scripture, somebody will find it.

[Joel]

The way I see it human beings made in the image of God are very intelligent, and inventive, and there have been many giants physically as well as mentally.
We can see that by the impressive buildings still around today that are a puzzle to some of the best minds living at this time.
Maybe they could even teach us a few things in many areas of the modern world.
For sure there are those that have not been so smart all throughout the history of our planet.
However carnal earthly wisdom doesn't measure up to the wisdom given of God, Solomon is a prime example of that reality many years ago.

Hi Bob,

Its like scripture says.

Rom 1:22  While claiming to be wise, they became fools.
