Once again I will give Ray respectful and due credit.  Probably not exact but, “weigh GOD’S words very carefully”. 

Yes indeed. 

Everyone has their own favorite scripture verse, or verses.  I have several myself.  From Psalms to Proverbs to anything Paul wrote.  Especially Paul.  If Paul were a sandwich he wouldn’t be scrambled eggs, more like roast beef.  Full of tasty meat. 

Aside from getting hungry I’ll push on to my point.  Today I came -back- across a beauty of getting to know Jesus.  And since I don’t participate in any established religion/church/Sunday school/Wednesday night “prayer” meetings, I’ll share this glory with some like-minded folks that would truly appreciate the majesty.

John 14:  8-9

“Phillip said to him, Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us”.

Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Phillip?  He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

In our ever-so-kind world today that “gotcha” retort would have come with a snappy sneer….because that’s what  a true beast does nowadays. 

To pull from another “ray-ism” and informally quote “say, did you happen to notice”…..

…”and Jesus loved him”.   

Because you know he did.

I agree with you about Paul.  I think he understood the "many are called, few chosen" nature of the Gospel of the Kingdom, ministering to "both" in the same letters.  He lived it, after all, and deeply.  I think he is quite funny at times, in that somewhat typical Jewish sense of humor that seems to have survived even to the present.  He comes the closest of any personage of the Bible to someone that I feel like I more completely understand, though not everything (as Peter attested) is easy.

As for Philip.  Since the disciples were not yet "converted" when this exchange took place, it's possible that Philip was just as perplexed by the answer as he had been before the question.  No doubt he remembered those words later.  So, if his feelings were hurt, it was only for a little while until he made peace with "He who has seen me has seen the Father..." and his fear left him.  That's "a" way to imagine this conversation.  I can imagine it other ways, but not as ending with anything short of faith-as-a-child.

I remember only once of any anger Jesus may have shown—temple/money exchangers/tables over turned.  (Excluding Old Testament).  Surmise any tinge of ‘what did I say wrong..?’ that Phillip may have felt contrariwise to normal peaceful exchanges with the Lord would have been short-lived.  Especially since they were not yet converted but very soon to be.  Even Peter may have felt the bristle brush, John 21:22.  ….”what is that to you?…”
But, we’re talking about our Lord who exemplified matchless humanly candor and peace of heart. 

In the same theme, Paul was of strong character and openly admitted he could be gentle or bring a rod of iron, ie: 1 Cor 4:21; and, “you foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you,…?”; and, “his letters are weighty and strong,” 2 Cor 10:10
Sour wine or honey.  But that’s why I like Paul’s writings.  His letters sway the seismic needle as required.  Even before his ‘road trip’ it doesn’t sound like Paul was a tickler of ear personality.  His letters are hard but thorough.  And myself being one in the fold of the ‘dumber’ sheep elementary is paramount.  I admit I have to read Paul repeatedly and short doses often.
