Eternal
« on: November 05, 2006, 11:28:46 AM »

I read your debate on  Is "EVERLASTING" Scriptural?

And it raised the following question based on your quote from Mr. Strong....

Strong's Greek Dictionary defines "aion" as follows:  "an age, perpetuity, the world, a Messianic period, course, eternal, forever, evermore, without end." Strong's defines the adjective aionios as follows: "perpetual, eternal, forever, everlasting."

If eternal death is for an age then so must be eternal life? Correct? The word eternal is the same word in the following passages.

Luke 16:9 you will be welcomed to eternal dwellings

John 3:15 In him may have eternal life.

John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish

If you can shed some light that?it  would be cool.

Thanks Dude,

Peace,

Mike

P.S youre angry ?But even our Lord had a righteous anger? It shows passion??

Dear Mike:

Yes, that is always a question. There is no word in either the Hebrew or Greek manuscripts which can accurately and correctly translated as "eternal," "everlasting," "for ever AND EVER?," etc.

There is no Scripture that promises anyone, therefore, "eternal life."  It is always "eonian" or "age-abiding" life. But this does not mean that God does not intend for us to live endlessly, for He does, but it's just that He never calls is "eternal" life.  What is promised in the Scriptures is "immortality" which means not "eterna life," but rather "death-less-ness."  And so there is practically eternal life, but it never uses such a term.

God be with you,

Ray
