Dear Bill: My no. The word "poor" is found 197 times in Scripture (165 times
in the Old Testament and 35 times in the New). This includes the times that even
animals are referred to as being of "poor" quality, etc. Jesus used the word
"poor" fourteen times. Of those, twice He had reference to the "poor in SPIRIT,"
as opposed to materially poor. That leaves 12 times. Of those, 5 are duplicates.
That is the same reference or event is recorded in Matthew AND Mark, and possibly
Luke and John as well. And so when we eliminate the duplicate statements, Jesus
mentioned the "poor" on about 7 or 8 occasions.
