  • There are two kinds of cops.The quick and the dead

        Hi Ray,
        I have been reading the material on your site for quite some time now and I must say that every fiber of my being shouts YES and AMEN! Your writings certainly, as far as I'm concerned, really witness to the TRUTH of the GOOD NEWS of Scripture.
        Ever since I was about 4 or 5 years old, when my mother first told me that there was a God who is the Creator, I have had a yearning to know Him. That was a long time ago. Now I'm a 50-something year old grandpa and its only been very recently that I've been brought to see and believe God's truth -- that Jesus Christ is the Saviour of ALL mankind, the state of the dead - that they are unconscious, that there's no flaming hell in which all sinners become their own individual "burning bush" that burns but is never consumed, etc. I know that All is of God. So this leads to my question: If ALL is of God, and it is, then even the faith that we need to please Him is OF HIM. Now here's my dilemna: I want to have complete faith in God, but I still find myself doubting and worrying, etc. This leads me to think that God has not given me the gift of faith that I know that I need and that He wants and that only can please Him. Therefore, I cannot drum up this faith, fo r it is a gift. I know the Bible states that we are all given a measure of faith, so this means that I've got at least a little bit of faith, but I'm nowhere where I want to be. I don't like living life being anxious and worried. I know I'm not supposed to be, yet then again, I can't help it if I am not given this gift of faith to get me so to speak "over the hump". Maybe I'm missing something. I'm sure I am. Do you by any chance have any insight?
        Thanks - and may God bless you and the work He has given you to do.

        Dear Louis:  Join the human race.  We ALL are not totally content with the amount of faith and peace of mind that we could wish we had.  Notice that even Paul near the end of his ministry realized that he did not as yet possess all the spiritual qualities that he was striving for:

        Phi 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

        Phi 3:11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

        Phi 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

        Phi 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

        Phi 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

        Phi 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

        Phi 3:16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

        PATIENCE is also a quality of the spirit that cannot be received quickly.

        God be with you,
