Moses and Elijah at the Transfiguration

[isukusa]

All: If we all remain in the grave awaiting the resurrection after we die how is it that Moses and Elijah appeared to Jesus at the transfiguration in Mt. 17:3?

UK Dave: Thanks again for the link. That did the trick! And once again I'm reminded that I need to read more carefully and less "recreationally."

Hi guys!
I made notes on that very passage last night and it perked my intrest when you mentioned it here....

As Ray says, it was a vision....
but what does the vision mean/say?

Moses and Elijah represent the Law and The Prophets
And these Alive/Spirit/Scriptures....SPEAK of Jesus and his decease which "He sould accomplish at Jerusalem."

Luke 9:30-31
30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:

31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.

To me....the vision is showing how the Scriptures (WHICH ARE SPIRIT) SPEAK of Christ ....Jesus confirms this again when he is walking with the men on the road to Emmaus.

Luke 24:26-27

26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

I never saw that but I see where it is going. Keep at it Joyful1.

Ephesians 2: 19 –22
19 Therefore you are not strangers but immigrants, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of God's household;
20 you are constructed on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, of which the cornerstone is Christ Jesus.

much higher learning...

Hi Kweli--
Okay...you asked for it! LOL!

Can you see  LUKE 9:30-31  as a picture?
Jesus, Moses, and Elias are standing TOGETHER, SPEAKING.....

I used to think of Moses and Elias speaking TO JESUS.....

BUT ...you could look at this way:  they are ALL SPEAKING THE SAME MESSAGE, side by side...THEY are ALL in AGREEMENT with eachother, concerning the prophecies about Jesus! (*Remember that Jesus TRIED to tell the disciples several times that He would be crucified at Jerusalem...but they didn't GET IT!)

Luke 9:30-31
30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:

31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.

Can you see that?

Hmmm, NIV paints it a bit more like you say...

Luke 9:30-31:
30Two men, Moses and Elijah, 31appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.

I'm seeing something...

Hi! Joyce

You have a real good point there. I'll be looking at the picture you paint more closely'

I'm not much of an artist myself but I'll do my best.

God bless.

Love in Christ Jesus.

Hi Brother Roy!
I'm not the artist, I'm not a teacher, I'm not even sure if I am chosen or not....but when I read, I formulate pictures to be able to remember things....some kind of association, you know what I mean?

And this picture helped me to begin to understand a little bit more about HOW God encodes His word (like using parables) so that only those who REALLY are searching for it will find it. I CAN say, without hesitation, that I DO REALLY want to know Him, His Son, and His Word!

But the rest is just my opinion.
