Hi Chuckt,

Here is an email on this.

As for "There be some STANDING H-E-R-E which shall not taste of death, TILL [till mean 'until,' and then when the 'till' has occurred, THEY WILL TASTE OF DEATH] they see the Son of man coming in His kingdom" (Matt. 16:28).  And just when DID they see this?  Answer--next verse:

Mat 17:1  And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart,

Mat 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

Mat 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

Where they really, actually, literally, in the flesh "talking with Jesus?"  No. Read verse 9:

Mat 17:9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

It was all a "VISION."  It happened in their minds, not unlike a dream--it was only a VISION, but in that vision, they really did see Jesus as He will appear "IN HIS KINGDOM).

Hope this helps your understanding. The Scriptures do not contradict their own truths.

God be with you,
Ray

I really like Ray's very logical explanation but I think there is another way to look at this verse as well.

Mat 4:4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

We are to apply every word of scripture to ourselves and it's pretty easy to do with the following scripture:

Luk 17:21  Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

One of the biggest errors in Christendom is the idea that there is some heaven we will all go to after we die called "The Kingdom of God." It's somewhere north of "The Pit of Eternal Torment." But as we see, the kingdom of God is not far away at all.

So there are those "standing here" (reading right this minute) that will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom (filling their lives now in this vapor of a life in the flesh.)

I kind of see Ray's explanaton as a great one to give to those comparing spiritual with literal and the other explanation for those who compare spiritual with spiritual.

Kat:

Hi Carol,

Yes I think there is more to that Scripture than for those present at the transfiguration.  There is always more layers to be revealed  :)

Mat 16:28  Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."

As the Scripture you brought shows, "the kingdom of God is within you." (Luk 17:21)

John 14:17  the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
v. 18  I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

So there were those there among the disciples that would be of the Elect and they did not die until Christ/Comforter/Kingdom came to them.

mercy, peace and love
