Father God instituted the written law knowing that we could not fulfill it.
It was instituted so that sin would increase. Romans 5:20
Bob

If Ray ever referenced Romans 5:20 I can't find it. Thanks Bob.

Can it be deducted that when you practice the law of the spirit so to speak, you inadvertently fulfill the law of Moses?

That is one way of looking at it, yes. The reason being that if you nip the problem of murder in the bud by loving your brother in your heart, then you won't desire to physically murder him. The nipping part in my experience appears to be a long process.

As to what is the least commandment, I'm not sure if that exists, though I honestly don't know. However, all the commandments are one and the same.

Mat 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38  This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

So yeah, when we obey the law spiritually, or rather when we obey Jesus spiritually, we, through Jesus and like Jesus, fulfill all the law and prophets.

Hi Matty
I think the answer you are looking for is in the teaching of Repentance and Guilty
of All.

You can go to YouTube where Dennis has put some shorts and their you will see
James 2:10 being explained.

I’m not sure this is what you are searching. Just my limited understanding.
Hope it helps Mattie.

Hi all

My title is derived from Ray's teaching that The law of Moses was Spiritual. I believe it's also on one of the videos on YouTube - I will find it if necessary.

I was revisiting Christ's sermon on the mount and came to a part where he declares that he came not to do away with the law. Heaven and earth will not pass until every word in the law fulfilled.
18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19So if you see ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Then Paul writes below in Rom 8:3. I understand both and I believe that they do not contradict.
My question is, seeing as during the same sermon on the mount, Christ teaches us a "higher" law. You have heard it said that you shall not commit murder without cause. but I tell you that he who hates his brother etc.
Can it be deducted that when you practice the law of the spirit so to speak, you inadvertently fulfill the law of Moses? Of course I'm not saying that you can murder and that receives no punishment because you love both your brother and enemy. This is a long way to ask what is the least commandment?

The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.

I know you speak truth Ralph and Dave, I just struggled with how to explain it.  Maybe I struggle , even after all these years, with how to Prove something that we all now believe.

Thank you friendofJC. I recall your words a couple of times a day quite often. Knowing and being assured of God's love is priceless. I'd assumed that I did respond to your encouraging comment of comfort.

Hello All,
Why do you suppose Jesus talks about Gehenna so often ?  If I understand the history, God never threw anyone in Gehenna.  It was an awful, unholy place that truly showed the worst of humanity. So, why did you suppose Jesus use it so often to speak of judgement ? Just thought I’d ask.

Within us is an awful, unholy thing called the carnal mind that needs to be destroyed. That only happens through firey judgment. We all must go through the same fire to be saved. God doesn't throw anyone into a physical Gehenna or real fire to purify them. Remember that the words Jesus spoke are spirit, and they are life. (John 6:63).
