[Dave in Tenn]

I'll have one of each.  That ought to last me a week or so.

dave you are absolutely hysterical!!!

claudia

[Ninny]

Claudia, No! Remember Dave is subnormal!! ha!!  pretty funny, too! hehe!

Hey, if you take out all the sugars and the breads..I could eat those yummy things, too!! Anything that has more than 10 grams of carbs better be mostly fiber!! Fiber you know, doesn't disturb your blood sugar...which causes me to get fat!! bummer... So skinny ole Dave...shut up!  If I should ever get a normal body...forget it...it ain't gonna happen!! I'll just have a cookie!!! hehe! cookies have all the bad things wrapped up into one little evil bite!! How rude!!

[Kat]

Hi Kathy,

I guess why I was glad to see these lists is because when you go out to eat you ignorantly (which maybe we liked not knowing) order some of the worse stuff.  Now at least I can have a better idea of what I should be ordering.

Trying to eat healthy with all that's available to us is surely a big battle, but I think I'm doing a little better, at least I'm trying.

Kat

[Ninny]

Kat,
You know in all seriousness.. We are the ones who have to be smart about eating right I can't help but think of how Ray has to eat.. so it's always good to to be watchful..we can't always depend on honesty in the food industry! Going out to eat is fun and if we chooe wisely we can enjoy good food AND good nutrition!! I really do wish I could eat anything I want!!  I think just being aware of what's in stuff is a start.. I always try to improve, maybe someday I'll get there!!
Kathy

[Kat]

Yea, thinking about what Ray is having to do, that is what got me to really start and look at what I was eating and researching about nutrition.  With a lot of reading and studying and Dr. Setger's basic instructions as a basic guide, I'm learning and implementing some changes.  Really only with someone like Dr. Setger's knowledge have I felt confident to really start making some big changes.  Not that I am strictly going by what just he says, but it gives me the basics of what I feel is a sound way to go.  Got a long way to go, but you have to start somewhere

Kat

[myms]

Forgive me if I sound sanctimonious - I don't mean to be - but what is it with you American's and all this fast food?? Surely the healthiest foods are fresh veg and fresh fruit and skinless chicken and brown rice etc etc!

I wait to be put in my place!!

[Kat]

No myms, you are right.  The thing is these fast food places are every where, even in small towns now.  It is so easy just to stop and grab something on the go and it can be cheap too.  You don't even have to get out of the car, just drive through.  I think we kind of got hooked on it before they started putting the numbers on what's in that stuff.  Now we have kids that grew up eating it, so it's just a way of life to them.  I think it is mainly just convenience though, but that is no excuse.

[Patrick]

For a good laugh, I showed this to my physical therapist/personal trainer/nutritionist and she "flipped out"!
Some of those "healthy" foods are not at all healthy. She thinks like Dr. Steger; and has a huge challenge ahead of her in getting this "steak & tater" kid's way of thinking changed.
Getting healthy is as easy as getting saved!

[Astrapho]

Oh my gosh!! Do I see McDonalds in there?!!!

-Off to get me some McDonalds!!!-

[Kat]

Yea yea Patrick, I think this was just trying to give you a 'better' choice from some of the other even less healthy selections on the menu, it's all relative.  I do agree with most of what Dr. Steger says, but let's face it, how many of us are actually going to eat like that

Kat,
Thanks for your healthy menu favorites. My wife and I are going to Chili's and I can hardly wait to try the Sweet Shot Key Lime Pie. I have also found Dr. Steger's video to be of great help and after I eat way too much for the Holidays I am going to contact him about his programs. A very special Christmas to you and yours and may our LORD bless and keep all members of this forum through 2010.

Greetings and yes Kat, thanks for the menu. I, as you know or might not, am a cook by trade. I have cooked for many restaurants. Most now have a special section on their menus for people who are trying to eat healthy. You know just a small change in ones diet can mean a difference. After Katrina, once we moved into a house, we had a stove to cook on. I started reading the labels on foods. It was very difficult at fist to understand but it had gotten easier. I bought low fat, low sodium foods. Remember sodium is salt and salt is bad. I started buying lite salt. Or season all. Anyway my point is just a small change will make you fell lighter, better, physically and meantally you start feeling different. This will lead one to make bigger changes, reading and understanding the labels makes a huge difference. Once one gets on this kick it starts to become a mission. It does take time however. reading the labels on the back of the products gets to be time consumming in the beginning. As time goes on one know what to buy and not. I went form 180lbs. at the time of Katrina to 250 a yr later then down to 200lbs where I am now. For the last 6mos due to money problems I went back to the old way of doing things and I must say I always feel tired, bloated, and just basically unhealthy. It does coast more to buy healthy. I drink alot of coffee and I bought a sm. bottle of Stevia which cost about 11$  but man is it sweet and just a very very small pinch will do it. That's another thing. all that sweeteners is terrible for ones health. Man, I'm sorry for going off on this topic. Good luck everybody and God bless y'all
