According to modern 21st Century values, I suppose that makes me one of the worst humans God ever made.
And I love the German Shepherd breed. We had a pet German Shepherd when I was a boy--name was Tarzan. Best dog ever! I missed him greatly when he died. Still have fond memories of him.
But to pray to Almighty God due to the death of a dog? Maybe I can find the time when there is no more war, disease, hunger, and death of mankind; when we dwell in peace under our own vine and fig tree.
In all of Scripture, from Genesis through Revelation, is there ever an example of prayer being made to God due to the death of an animal? Just curious.

Jesus!......John, so maybe you're right. But why even say it? Nothing gained there.
I recall the animal in the OT speaking, don't you? Maybe it's not the same as this but t'was an animal in torment. Showed a bit of mercy from the almighty's POV over an animal don't you think?
I feel plumb sorry over the agony of their loved dog.
Pray? Don't know, but I won't tell you if I did.
Step down off your pedestal, take off your long robe and re-join us sinners in the real world.

Does Christ not also bear our burdens? Did he not show empathy to those who are hurting? Sometimes things that don't move us to much are very important to others. I wouldn't pray for a dead dog but for those who are hurting through it.
1Pe 3:8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
I also had to put down a magnificent shepherd not that long ago.
IF IT SHOULD BE
If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle cannot be won.
You will be sad I understand,
Don't let grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.
We've had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears,
You'd not want me to suffer so,
The time has come to let me go.
Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me until the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me.
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time that you will see,
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Please do not grieve it must be you,
Who has this painful thing to do,
We've been so close, we two, these years
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.
For I am now in a better place,
And will be waiting to see your happy face.
So when you cross that final bridge,
Look for me...
I'll be standing next to the fridge.

I'm surprised at how bad I feel when a pet dies. But I've learned the worst of it is over in a few days and after a few months I just miss having it around.
Gina:
There's that old saying: "The better I know people, the more I like my dog..." That's probably why people they miss their pets so much. Most of them stand by their owners with a devotion that pales that of most marriage partners. I still miss my daughter's cat, and the dog we had when I was growing up. Her name was Missy and she was the sweetest thing.
Once I sent Ray and Manuela some flowers and he wrote and said he couldn't believe how long they'd lasted and then I wrote him again to ask how they were holding up, and he said, Gina, Your flowers have faded just like my little kitty (he loved that cat). :'(
I'm sorry, but when people are grieving whether it's over a pet or not and someone asks for prayers for the person who is grieving, and you pray, I can't imagine God rolling His proverbial eyes at that.
So thanks for praying. These people, from what little I know about them (I don't know them personally), are some of the sweetest, kindest people, not just to their pets but to people as well.
