God's Quarterback

Football and hockey fans etc. etc. 8)
I try to relate myself to our Lord Jesus as a friend who visits and is welcomed with open arms.
When he arrives, I drop everything like Abraham did and immediately offer my full attention.

I learned this by living for 52 years with my lovely, patient, longsuffering wife.
When I am in our den, totally engrossed in a TV game or movie, with my plate full of chips and salsa and my wife enters the den, I remove my ear phones or turn the volume off and turn to focus my attention on her exclusively. It's not only polite and gracious it's an obligation that the head of the wife should accept with joy and appreciation.
Now this wasn't always productive. It often was done without reward. But teaching my wife that I cared more about her needs than I did about the TV took time; lots of time.

The point is that we need to love and desire to be with our Lord Jesus more than anything. So the question we may ask of ourselves is where are our priorities? God first, family second, personal desires, as reasonable as they may be, last.

Kindly offered, Indiana Bob

Indiana Bob - you are a treat
If every man / woman could learn to appreciate each other while they still have time on earth - what a better place this would be
And I don't care or dis-care if its football or rugby that is the distraction - just to be with you is my motto - and experience this wonderful gift of life together and perchance to hear you, feel you and see what you see
Thank you Bob for your incredible downright love attitude - I am weary of the words and hurdles and confines of separateness - who says my time would be better spent doing something else rather than just being with you?

Hi Indiana Bob, thanks for your post, it was the kind of post I was expecting after posting mine. It is of great help to link our dealings with personal idols and our dealing with our personal priorities. Sometimes when we put what should be first, first, only then, we start making progress.

To John Chris: You asked
How do I know which of my "brothers" are weak?

It's easier to know which of our brothers (people that we phileo-love them) are weak (in certain aspects of their life) when we live close or along with them. Actually when we are closer to somebody we get to know what things offend them and try hard to be easy on them, and if we are to introduce them to new inforation, then we try to do it carefully and with patience.

But in one online community, this is harder to do, since we are so many, and we can't even see our faces, we can merely grasp about the attitude of the others talking for the way they write. (My first language is Spanish and this sometimes gets in the way for me).

For example, I know John from Kentucky doesn't want to ofend anyone and that he is just sharing something that he considers interesting or amusing at this section of the forum.
On this particular situation, I consider my self here to be the weak brother, since personally I find big sponsored sports (I am talking about the whole sport scene) to be insensitive to human suffering worldwide, also because of hard experiences of merely surviving that I have had in the past. But I am sure that if I would be hanging out with Jonh from Kentucky here in Mexico, he would not find appropriate to bring this subjects to me (and even if he would do it, I would just say something like; yeah I can appreciate the human skills that those players have, they are awesome!... and then move the conversation into something that would connect us on a deeper way).

On the other side of the situation, I should also be careful to don't offend people that is not ready to listen things that are against what they consider just fine at this time in their life.

God, this thing of not offending a brother that is weak, is even harder to do it here online...
