The Once Saved Always Saved Teaching Misleading?

Boy, that was a good re read.

But....silly me I didn't check the dates and I thought Gary & Andy came back ::)

It is the Once Saved Always Saved Doctrine that made me search for answers which led me to BT.

The preacher was teaching that if you are saved then disobey His commandments you would get your reward.
If you get saved and disobey God's commandments you would still be saved but lose your reward.

I do not remember for sure what verses he used but it could have been the following:

1 Corinthians 3:14-15 (King James Version)

14If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

 15If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

As we know those whose works are burned will be in the second resurrection and saved in the Lake of Fire.

Zacman:
Hey all,

"You Cannot Lose Your Salvatation No Matter What You Do After You Are Saved."

The once saved always saved doctrine brings in the old backslidden christian syndrome.

It amazes me to think people could really think God is going to torture people who never heard the truth, and save people who knew the truth and live contrary to His word after they supposedly knew it.

This is standard right wing fundamentalism. (The once saved always saved doctrine that is.) That's why evangelists have alter calls and promote the idea that their converts are going to heaven after their supposed conversion.

How many of you all have gone to a funeral and heard a preacher say something to the order of this person made a commitment to God, or was saved or whatever.

I'll quote Ray on this one, "what a crock!".

The once saved always saved doctrine exploits the fact that Christendom doesn't have a clue about the judgment of believers now, (the elect), and the future corrective judgment of all in the second Resurrection.

Best regards,
and may God bless you all,

Zac

Hi Arcturus, and Everyone :)

Arcturus you wrote:

We are called to watch and pray and run our race working our our salvation....daily learning that Christ is Sovereign.

I just want to share some thoughts and Scriptures on this topic, after the above statment caught my attention. :)

However, are we really in charge of our own salvation in order that we must work it? I ask this in the Spirit of Truth, for Christ himself said that we can do nothing to further our stature.

Mat 6:27  Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

Christs words of course are true regarding those who ask God to save them; man may ask, but God does the drawing.

John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which has sent Me, draw him [Gk: ‘drag him’].

Paul speaks of the benefits of being dragged by God, to Christ. :)

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

There are three very important points made by Paul in the above.

    1. It is by grace we are saved
    2. Not by thoughts, words or actions.
    3. It is a GIFT from our GRACIOUS and ALL LOVING GOD :)

Why was Paul so adamant in pointing this out? Well the answer is found in the next two verses.

Eph 2:9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Eph 2:10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Whose works are being worked? :)  Not ones own, but God's which He ordained or planned for one to walk.

So just who is Paul referring to here? Who are the "we"?

Let's read on.....  :)

Eph 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye [being] in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

Eph 2:12  That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

Eph 2:13  But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh (near) by the blood of Christ.

Eph 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition [between us];

Eph 2:15  Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain (two) one new man, [so] making peace;

Eph 2:16  And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Eph 2:17  And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

Eph 2:18  For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. (per John 6:44)

Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

Eph 2:20  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone];

Eph 2:21  In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

Eph 2:22  In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

The "We" is all who have been drawn (dragged) by God and have been given the gift of truth and of salvation. What is more, collectively, the same make up the "new man" or body of Christ. :)

Rom 12:5 So we, [being] many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

1Cr 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also [is] Christ.

This seems pretty clear and straight forward to me. All of this is by the graciousness and compassion of our God, for to him we owe everything.

To close, I want to copy the original post from the beginning of this thread. :

--- Quote from: robtjr30 on September 24, 2006, 01:50:49 PM ---Ok there is this teaching that is Once you are Saved in Jesus Christ that you are Aways Saved and that teaching most preachers say, "You Cannot Lose Your Salvatation No Matter What You Do After You Are Saved."

Can anyone shed light on this teaching is it something Satan uses to lull the Saved into spiritual sleep so that they may lose there trust in Jesus?
I don't know much about this teaching.

--- End quote ---

The answer is simple; for by grace God has allowed some to be saved through faith. Grace alone and not by works, prayers or thoughts by oneself; salvation is a gift of God.  [Eph 2:8]

One CANNOT lose ones Salvation NO MATTER What One Does After Being Saved. :)  NOT if they are truly saved by Christ rather than the quick promise of man.

Because, at this time, being formed into the "new" body of Christ, we are truly doing the good works of God that he planned all along for, can we sidestep or fall away?

Eph 2:10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

What man alive can thwart God?  :D

No ONE!!!  ;D

I hope this post is found in the spirit it was written.

Love in Christ,
Darren

Robert:

I have belonged to a ‘once saved always saved’ Church for 30 years. The line of argument assumes that the ‘sinner’s prayer’ will get you born-again and once ‘born into God’s family’ nothing can get you ‘un-born.’ The argument against those who say a Christian can ‘lose their salvation’ is: “what were we saved from?” (everlasting, eternal torture in a fiery HELL where the Rich man is right now!) If we were eventually ‘lost’ then we are not ‘saved’ and never were. (‘The operation was successful but alas the patient died’)

A careful study of calling, predestination and election will reveal that we are not called to be ‘saved’ but called to be ‘conformed into the image of the Son’ (Romans 8v29) so the evidence of calling is Christ-likeness, not having a date when we are ‘saved’. Hope this helps.
