Hi everyone! My mother has been saying to me in the last few days that she thinks she should be preparing for food prices to go up-by stocking food and  other necessitys she also mentioned getting a generator.I personally do not feel that i need to concern myself --however i should not dismiss her feelings/thoughts on this subject perhapes it is our Father putting this thought in her head.
Are any of you preparing for a possibility of rioting and mauraders?

I want to say up front though i am not a passivist and i would not tolerate anyone stealing nor threatening me or mine, i just dont personally feel i should get any supplies stored up.
I want to know what to say to her, and i figured you 'guys' cuold help me out.

Hello Rough Times jaguar,

Interesting second question and circumstance.  Let me try to illustrate a scenario.

If everyone around you is really hungry and thirsty and cold and you are not, they will notice and be very concerned about your source of food or water or clothing or heat.  You won't have to worry too long about roving marauders, because your hungry neighbors will be at your front door seeking answers.  In that case, the only protection you will have will be to share ALL that you have willingly and to accept the consequences.  In other words, we all live or we all die together.  If you exercise any force to defend your property and food from marauders, they will regroup in a day or two and come back in force and take everything including your very lives, because they will feel justified in doing so.

Regarding the first question, it is good to plan for power outages and severe weather and lack of food delivery to your area for several days and even a generator is good if you have enough fuel to operate it for an extended period.  You Mom is probably experienced in unexpected situations and wise to think of these things ahead of time especially since she may be older and not able to cope with severe cold in the house or loss of refrigeration in the case of storage of medicines, frozen foods etc. and she may believe that she has an obligation to help her neighbors or others who would depend upon her.

Just the view of an older generation.

Bob

Jackie Lee:
My Mother is near 80 and she believes food will be rationed in the near future, she was around when food was rationed in world war two.
I really don't worry much about this because I don't believe I could stop it by stocking up.
However I do try and keep noodles and a few cans of extra food.
Does anyone think it will come to robbing and stealing for our supplies?
I keep remembering the Y2K and how everyone was panicky which came to nothing.
Seems people are fearing really bad times ahead.

I think that there are rough times coming. It seems pretty clear we (in the USA at least) are in or very close to recession and could be getting worse. It is somewhat upsetting to me how economic policies affect the poor around the world who can no longer afford food. I think it is wise to do your own research (i.e. more than tv news) and if you feel necessary to prepare for you, your loved ones/whoever else you can. But I think it is important to remember to place our trust in God and not to let the physical distract from the spiritual. Here we believe that God is in control of everything.

No, I have not done anything to prepare but I am thinking about maybe planting some vegetables or something. But I also have the thought maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I saw some hardship because life has been easy for me. I also keep in mind what Jesus has to say about worrying what you will eat or wear.

Whatever the case, I think the message remains the same: Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself.
Thanks for listening to what I have to say,
Steve
