Prepare for rough times?
chuckt:
Now this I am averring, brethren, the era is limited; that, furthermore, those also having wives may be as not having them,
30 and those lamenting as not lamenting, and those rejoicing as not rejoicing, and those buying as not retaining,
31 and those using this world as not using it up. For the fashion of this world is passing by.
our identity is not in lamenting nor rejoicing nor marriage, nor the things of this world. they are all passing away, we enjoy them but have NO trust in them, for ours is in the heavens.
it is true, the ""fashion"" of this age/world is passing by and our hope is NOT in it.
may we ALL learn to be content in whatever situation we find ourselves in, keeping our thoughts on things above!
inlove

Hello Rough Times jaguar,
Interesting second question and circumstance. Let me try to illustrate a scenario.
If everyone around you is really hungry and thirsty and cold and you are not, they will notice and be very concerned about your source of food or water or clothing or heat. You won't have to worry too long about roving marauders, because your hungry neighbors will be at your front door seeking answers. In that case, the only protection you will have will be to share ALL that you have willingly and to accept the consequences. In other words, we all live or we all die together. If you exercise any force to defend your property and food from marauders, they will regroup in a day or two and come back in force and take everything including your very lives, because they will feel justified in doing so.
Regarding the first question, it is good to plan for power outages and severe weather and lack of food delivery to your area for several days and even a generator is good if you have enough fuel to operate it for an extended period. You Mom is probably experienced in unexpected situations and wise to think of these things ahead of time especially since she may be older and not able to cope with severe cold in the house or loss of refrigeration in the case of storage of medicines, frozen foods etc. and she may believe that she has an obligation to help her neighbors or others who would depend upon her.
Just the view of an older generation.

Are any of you preparing for a possibility of rioting and mauraders?
I want to say up front though i am not a passivist and i would not tolerate anyone stealing nor threatening me or mine, i just dont personally feel i should get any supplies stored up.
I want to know what to say to her, and i figured you 'guys' cuold help me out.

Hi! Jaguar
Bob has given some sound advice: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matt.6:19-21).
The thieves will most certainly want not just a share but the lot and you may lose your physical life protecting the wrong treasures.
God bless you brother and sister in our joint walk in Christ.
Love in Christ Jesus.

If by bad time you are talking about the US economy, I keep hearing the word recession but I can't seem to get a seat in a restaurant, a parking space at the mall or tickets to a good movie on the weekends. I see hundreds of SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized sedans everywhere I look. In other words, at least where I live, no one even seems to be trying to cut back.
I live about seven miles from the nearest store and I have been trying to coordinate our trips. I am looking into a more fuel efficient car (I have an SUV for the winter because we need 4wd) but I also own a Honda fit which gets approx 40mpg. Pretty good. I feel strongly that our dependence on foreign oil must stop. Alternate energy sources are a must. The price of fuel is driving up the price of everything! I am worried. Somethings gotta give.

Hi Eileen,
I live in SW Florida and it's really bad here. Scary bad....Lots of people out of work....Allot of Business's Closing Up....Crime escalating. We have seen several city Jobs terminated and have had to have Police protection at City Hall due to threats... that if people were fired they would come back with Guns and take people out!
Anything that has to do with real estate is in the proverbial toilet. Someone told me recently that Canada has agreed to send it's Military in to our country to control rioting!!! So if this is true , our Government is preparing for things to get allot worse.
About a Third of the homes in the town I live in are near or in forecloser! I can see families going back to the ways of the "WALTONS" (TV show) Which may not be a bad idea, God probably wants us to stop focusing on "things" as much as people.
But as Jesus taught us I try to stay focused on "now/today" and realize that he is doing a work. If suffering comes, I will have to accept it, as Christ did on the Cross, and have faith he will accomplish his will. I also feel lead to prepare somewhat as when God warned Joseph to store up for a coming famine. I don't think we should react in fear but in his Wisdom...I don't believe having a Plan B is not trusting in him! (Just my Opinion)
There are allot of "Alarmists and Fear Mongers" out there. Our Government tells us this is no big deal....Who are you going to believe? I can share with you what I see, but you may never see it where you are, which I hope is true!
I try Not lean to my own understanding....Some days I am better at that than others...
Your Sister in Christ
