Do you or anyone else know if falling from grace and leaving your first love can be more subtle, where it might be a bit more difficult to identify?

It was pretty subtle for me. I didn't actually realize I had fallen away until  I was brought back and "looked back" as Ray would say.

She Shall Be Praised
“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” (Proverbs 31:30)

Proverbs 31 is identified as “the words of King Lemuel” (v. 1). Since it is divided into two distinct parts, some have proposed that it has two different authors. The first part (vv. 1-9) consists of “the prophecy that his mother taught him” (v. 1), while the second part (vv. 10-31) describes “a virtuous woman” (v. 10). Perhaps it is better to understand the woman as Lemuel’s mother, for “her children rise up and call her blessed” (v. 28).

“Many daughters have done virtuously” (v. 29, same word as in v. 10). Recognizing that the only other woman described as “virtuous” in the Bible was Ruth (Ruth 3:11) gives us more complete insight into such a woman’s character. The woman described in Proverbs 31 is one who has achieved in all its fullness the glories of her womanhood, both in the home as wife and mother and in her community. Not only do her children bless her, but her husband has absolute confidence in her (v. 11), appreciates the bounty that she brings (v. 12), has the freedom to be an effective leader in the community (v. 23), and praises her virtue to others (v. 28).

Without question, the key to her accomplishments is found in our text. Her fear of the Lord blossoms into such inner beauty and diligence that, by wisdom and devotion, she so trains her children and so lovingly provides for her husband’s needs that when they leave the home she has fashioned and have occasion to speak of her, their words will be blessing and praise.

On this day when so many of us remember and are thankful for our godly wives and/or mothers, let us rekindle our own fear of the Lord and by so doing develop similar qualities and habits. JDM

In addition to what Pamela said, I've always thought that spiritual songs signify a conversion of the heart. Like this conversion prophesized in Jeremiah.

Jer 24:7  I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the LORD. They will be My people, and I will be their God because they will return to Me with all their heart.   

The interesting part about this to me is the fact that we can know the state of our heart, like Jesus did, by what we think or say when speaking of God. This parable explains the idea nicely because it puts the responsibility of receiving a new heart squarely on God in the same way Jeremiah 24:7 does.

Mat 12:33  Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

Mat 12:34  O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Mat 12:35  A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

Mat 12:36  But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Mat 12:37  For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

There was a time not long ago that I believed that it was up to me to "make the tree good". But now, maybe I'm learning a new song that speaks of the absolute sovereignty of God.

The idea of spiritual songs has always been of great interest to me, but I admit that I only understand it in part.

Yes Pamela, I think a lot of us sang that song wishing it could be possible to live in harmony and peace.  As a child my grandparents took me to church when I visited them.  I enjoyed the hymn When the Roll Is Called (up yonder) and I wanted to be in the roll and be with Jesus.

Great topic Diane , I love music, it was a big part of my childhood as my dad and brother were musically inclined. We all sang in our family, or tried to.
I remember hearing this song by the New Seekers , called, I’d Like To Teach
The World To Sing in Perfect Harmony. It was short and easy to learn and so it was one that I hummed or sang until a new song came about.

Well here we are so many years later singing a new song , this time in spirit.

Exo.15:2….The Lord is my strength and my SONG  and He has become my
salvation.

Rev.14:2… and I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters
and like the sound of loud thunder. The voice I heard was like the sound of
harpists playing on their harps,3…. and they were singing A NEW SONG 🎶
before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders.
No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.
Rev.5:9…. And they sang a NEW SONG 🎶 saying “ worthy are you to take the scroll
and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people
for God, from every tribe, and language and people and nation,10… and you have
made them a kingdom and priests to our God and they shall reign on the earth.


This is music to my ears and there is no shortage of heavenly songs in the scriptures. God taught the angels to sing. I wonder what 10,000 angels sound
like together singing the praises of Jesus and our Father . I am so exceedingly
happy to hear ; Psalm 66:4…. All the earth worships you and sing praises to you.
They sing praises to your name.( Jesus/ Jehovah) Selah.

Ray said he really liked Psalm 150, the last one.

A beautiful suuny morning today; amazing how a little sunshine can boost ones spirit 

Would like to know your thoughts as to how to do what these versus say ie sing in the spirit with one another if we have physically come out of the church. 

1 COR 14:15  "I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding." 

I see how this relates individually but the centre note takes you to the following versus:

COL 3:16    Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another  in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

EPH 5:19   Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs and making melody in your heart to the Lord.

Also, what would spiritual songs be?

PS: we have musicians on BT...maybe we could do an online meet and sing together

 Isa 52:6  Therefore My people shall know what My name is and what it means; therefore they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks; behold, I AM! 

Isa 52:7  How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace, who brings good tidings of good, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns!
